Ten years ago, Breaking Bad came into our lives. The AMC show ran for five seasons, from January 20, 2008 to September 29, 2013, and over the course of that time, fans fell in love with Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who went to great lengths to make some money for his family. Jesse, Skyler, Walt Jr., Hank, Saul, Mike...There were so many great characters on this series that is known as one of the greatest television series of all time, and there were so many side plots that came together to make the show something we obsessed over and lived for.
It became one of the most-watched cable shows on American television and received award and award. In 2013, Breaking Bad was even entered into the Guinness World Records as the most critically acclaimed TV show of all time.
A decade has since passed, though, and what are the actors and actresses up to these days? Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito, Krysten Ritter... Learn what these talented people have been up to since BrBa ended, and learn where all we can see them next, from books and the stage to blockbuster hits and politics!
15 Bryan Cranston as Walter White
Since Breaking Bad has ended, according to Cranston’s IMDb, he has appeared in series such as How I Met Your Mother, lent his voice to shows like Robot Chicken and movies like Kung Fu Panda 3. He has also been featured in films such as Godzilla in 2014, Why Him in 2016 and Power Rangers in 2017. Along with acting, he has also been directing, writing and producing, with credits on series such as Sneaky Pete and The Dangerous Book for Boys, shows he helped create. Cranston turned to the stage, too, as he played U.S. president Lyndon B. Johnson in the Broadway play All the Way, from September 2013 to June 2014. He even won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play. Then, the following month, it was announced that All the Way would be turned into an HBO show, and for his role in that, Cranston received eight Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Television Critics Choice Award.
Besides acting, Cranston also produced an instructional DVD called KidSmartz, to help teach safety when it comes to dangers such as child abductors and Internet predators, and wrote an autobiography titled A Life in Parts, which became a New York Times bestseller.
14 Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman
Aaron Paul has continued acting since Breaking Bad ended, and his most notable work includes two TV shows: BoJack Horseman and The Path. Fans can hear his voice on the animated show BoJack Horseman, and he serves as an executive producer on it, too. He stars as Eddie Lane on The Path and also helps produce this show. And currently, his IMDb lists four films for him that are all in the post-production phase or completed. His upcoming films will put him up next to big names like Christina Hendricks, Sienna Miller and Emily Ratajkowski.
A fun fact is that his voice was used in an episode of Black Mirror, “USS Callister,” where he is credited as Gamer691. Furthermore, this episode starred Jesse Plemons — his Breaking Bad co-star!
The biggest thing that Paul has been up to does not have to do with acting, though. He married his wife, Lauren Parsekian, on May 26, 2013. And in September 2017, the world knew that the two were expecting their first child. And in February 2018, their daughter, Story, entered the world. Readers who are somehow not already following him on Instagram need to go do it now, because every now and then, we get blessed with a photo of the adorable Story.
13 Dean Norris as Hank Schrader
In Breaking Bad, Hank Schrader was one of those characters that people had a lot of feelings about, as fans struggled to decide if they loved him or hated him. Either way, Dean Norris’ acting was praised and has spurred him on to even more work (and, yes, this is according to his IMDb page!).
He played Big Jim in Under the Dome from 2013-2015, and he has appeared in numerous other television series, such as The Big Bang Theory, in which he played Colonel Richard Williams. And this year, he has/will appear in three films with some fellow actors who are also regularly praised for their work in the industry: Beirut with Jon Hamm, Death Wish with Bruce Willis, and Duke City with George Lopez.
Norris lives in California with his wife, Bridget, and their five children, and this year, they opened up the Norris Performing Arts Center in their hometown of Temecula.
The center exists so that young people who are interested in the arts can train in acting, drawing, painting, and dance. Hmm...Taking acting classes from a Breaking Bad alum…? I will be right back, guys; I am definitely moving to Cali (specifically, Temecula) now!
12 Anna Gunn as Skyler White
After Breaking Bad ended, Anna Gunn—who played Skyler White—had a couple of appearances in a couple of TV shows, according to her IMDb: The Mindy Project, Portlandia, Criminal Minds, and Robot Chicken. Last year, she also was in Shades of Blue, a crime drama that stars Ray Liotta and Jennifer Lopez, and this year, she is starring in a comedy film called You Can Choose Your Family.
So, Gunn has definitely continued acting, but she has not popped up as much as some of her co-stars (like Paul and Cranston, who are in several big things and working on producing, too).
She did make the news in March of this year, though, when her home was almost robbed. She was at her house in Los Angeles when someone broke a window in her home, which triggered her alarm system. She immediately turned on lights, which seemed to have scared the suspect or suspects away. The police were called, and—besides the broken window—everything was fine. That definitely sounds like a scary situation, and we are so glad she okay — and we are thrilled to learn that she sounds as smart and as tough as her BrBa character was, too! You go, girl.
11 Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring
Gustavo “Gus” Fring had one of the most memorable exits in any show, ever. And while it was bittersweet to see him leave Breaking Bad (we hated the character but loved the actor and his creepy-awesome portrayal), fans have been lucky enough to see Giancarlo Esposito in plenty more.
He has been involved in three soundtracks (which makes sense, since he was a singer on The Electric Company in the 1970s!).
He is the director and producer of The Show, a series that stars he and Josh Duhamel. And he has acted on series such as Revolution, Allegiance, and Once Upon A Time and on films like The Jungle Book (He was the voice of Akela, the leader of the wolf pack.) and the Maze Runner film series. He also went back to playing Gus in Better Call Saul and in a TV mini-series called Better Call Saul: Los Pollos Hermanos Employee Training. Outside of acting, Esposito is the voice of The Dentist in the video game Payday 2, and he narrates Dear White People.
All of this is information is straight from his IMDb page, which also has more work in the works, meaning we get to keep on enjoying this man!
10 Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman
Bob Odenkirk played Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, and even though the show has wrapped up, Odenkirk’s work has continued going and going and growing and growing! He was in TV shows such as Fargo and Comedy Bang! Bang! and showed up in films such as The Disaster Artist (credited here as "Stanislavsky Teacher"). Last year, he also wrote and starred in Girlfriend's Day, a dramedy that was released on Netflix.
His two most notable works, though, since Breaking Bad has ended, are Better Call Saul and Incredibles 2. Better Call Saul, which he also helps produce, is a spin-off series of BrBa. It's all about the trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer, Jimmy McGill (better known by his professional alias of Saul Goodman). And the Pixar movie Incredibles 2 comes out this year, and fans can hear Odenkirk's voice as Winston Deavor.
He has also started to have more prominent roles in critically successful films like The Spectacular Now, which received the Special Jury Award for Acting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, and Nebraska, which was nominated for a Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Odenkirk, too, seems like he is only just getting started within this field!
9 RJ Mitte as Walter White, Jr.
RJ Mitte played Walter White, Jr., and since Breaking Bad ended, Mitte has appeared on shows such as Switched at Birth, Dixieland, and Robot Chicken. His IMDb also lists six different films that have been announced, are being filmed right now or are in the post-production phase.
Movies and shows are not the only things Mitte has been involved with, though. He was in a Hollywood Undead music video in 2013 (for "Dead Bite"). He helped cover the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games for British Channel 4. He and his sister are creating and acting in a film called Wildflowers, and he is producing a documentary called The Kids of Widney High.
This 25-year-old actor would love to work his way up to directing! Mitte was also on the cover of the February/March 2015 issue of Neurology Now and is a celebrity ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy, since, like his character, he has cerebral palsy.
And last but not least, he added modeling to his résumé, with a Gap campaign in the spring of 2014, along with a runway show for Vivienne Westwood in June 2015.
Expect to see this handsome, talented and driven young man even more as time goes by!
8 Betsy Brandt as Marie Schrader
After playing Marie Schrader, the purple-loving character of Breaking Bad, Betsy Brandt was seen and was heard in TV series such as The Michael J. Fox Show, Masters of Sex, Parenthood, American Dad, and Life in Pieces, as evident through her IMDb page. When she is not filming, she seems to be outside, enjoying the great outdoors (perhaps with her husband and their two children), since her Instagram is full of animals and nature scenes.
Furthermore, when promoting a film last year called Flint, she gushed about her home state of Michigan and all the beauty it possesses, naturewise. Flint (which premiered on Lifetime) was all about the Flint water crisis in Flint, Michigan. It starred Queen Latifah and Brandt and was nominated for three Image Awards and a Critics' Choice Television Award.
Brandt received her BFA in acting from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and studied theater at Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theater Training and at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow. With training like that, we are prepared to see a lot more of this actress (though she will always be Marie to us, and we will always expect her to being wearing purple!).
7 Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut
We are NOT going to talk about how Jonathan Banks' character, Mike Ehrmantraut, exited from Breaking Bad — but we will focus on all the success he has been seeing since then! He was in an episode of Parks and Recreation (he played Steve Wyatt, the father of Ben Wyatt, who is played by Adam Scott!). He also appeared in Community, Gravity Falls, The Expanse and in the TV mini-series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (to name a few). He has been in films such as Horrible Bosses 2 and will offer up his voice in Incredibles 2 (just like his co-star, Bob Odenkirk!). And he even voiced Commissioner James Gordon in the video game Batman: Arkham Knight.
Perhaps his most notable work was in Better Call Saul, when fans rejoiced at the return of Mike and when Banks received his third Emmy nomination.
Oh, and in April 2016, Banks received an honorary doctoral degree from Indiana University.
His mother earned a bachelor's degree in business from IU, one of his daughters is an IU graduate, another one of his daughters is a student there, and his grandfather helped lay the foundation of Franklin Hall, the future home of The Media School at IU.
6 Jesse Plemons as Todd Alquist
After playing Todd Alquist in Breaking Bad, Jesse Plemons’ career skyrocketed. He was in Fargo (along with his co-star Bob Odenkirk). He starred in an episode of Black Mirror (the episode that Aaron Paul's voice was in!). And his IMDb lists out three films, all coming out next year, that fans should prepare for: The Bell Jar (based on the novel of the same name, directed/written by Kirsten Dunst and starring Plemons, Dakota Fanning and Patricia Arquette), Jungle Cruise (based on Disneyland's ride and starring Plemons, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne Johnson), and The Irishman (a crime drama about Jimmy Hoffa, starring Plemons, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino).
Plemons was also considered for the role of Finn in the new Star Wars film (Episode VII), which would have been interesting.
For his work in Fargo, Plemons received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie nomination. And in Fargo, Plemons played the husband of Peggy Blumquist, who was played by Kirsten Dunst. And Plemons began dating Dunst in 2016, and now, they two are engaged and expecting a child together! Stay tuned for more details about this cute couple and their cute future child!
