Gal Gadot was without a doubt an incredible pick for the titular role of Wonder Woman. The actress brought strength, intelligence and even a certain playfulness to the role, fulfilling our hopes and then some for the first female-driven superhero film in recent history. Between Gadot's look, voice and acting chops, she fully brought Diana to life in a way that inspired women worldwide and, along with director Patty Jenkins, finally returned the DC universe to the realm of good movie-making.

There are several other actresses who were offered the role, and between these women and several others who could have filled Diana's boots, it could have been much different--possibly even better. It's fun to imagine what it might have been like had the role gone to any of these 15 Female Stars Who Could've Been A Better Wonder Woman Than Gal Gadot.

15 Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman has a history of playing inspiring, tireless women who take on everything from Batman to the Crazy 88. Given the fact that she already played Poison Ivy in one of the worst adaptations of Batman, it would be cool to watch her redeem her claim to the DC universe.

Thurman also just has the body strength for the character, standing an inch higher than Gadot and looking pretty buff.

14 Jaimie Alexander

It was a shame to see Sif disappear from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so why not give Jaime Alexander a chance to be a part of the DC world? The Blindspot and Kyle XY star is fantastic with a sword, wears armor like a pro and has the kind of swagger one would expect from a goddess. Alexander could have been a cool Wonder Woman.

13 Natalie Morales

Implementing more people of color and diversity into all media should be a modern goal of any director, not only to be more inclusive but to represent the world we actually live in. Natalie Morales of Parks and Recreation, Battle of the Sexes and Santa Clarita Diet would be a fantastic person to update the role. Funny, tough and beautiful, Morales would captivate the audience while kicking butt.

12 Evangeline Lilly

We've already seen Evangeline Lilly kill it as The Wasp, partner to Ant-Man and all-around incredible scientist-ninja. It's obvious that she's got the skills to pull off Wonder Woman. In the mid-2000s, Lilly was actually in talks about portraying the character, who was her favorite superhero as a little girl, before that version of the film fell through.

11 Angela Bassett

It's high time that we had a black Wonder Woman, and Angela Basset has the chops to play her. So what if she's over 60 years old? That actress is as rocking as ever, commanding every scene when she's in American Horror Story, and who's to say we couldn't have her play the character in a future time rather than the past?

10 Lucy Lawless

What could be more fitting than Xena, Warrior Princess as Wonder Woman? Anyone who ever watched the show already knows that Lucy Lawless could definitely play Wonder Woman, and she'd bring a new ferocity to the character that could even reinvent her in ways that many superheroes are being revamped in modern films.

9 Morena Baccarin

Between Gotham and Deadpool, Morena Baccarin already has a hand in both the DC and Marvel worlds, but the spitfire actress is not only capable of playing DC's most iconic female superhero, but perhaps even improving the role. Before Deadpool, she was even considered for the job in the early 2000’s.

8 Rosario Dawson

Yes, she's already Claire Temple (Night Nurse) in the MCU, but she's also voiced Wonder Woman in Reign of the Supermen, The Death of Superman and Justice League Dark. The talented actress definitely deserves a shot at bringing the character she's voiced to life in the flesh. She's also voiced Barbara Gordon for The Batman Lego Movie.

7 Jessica Biel

Action, drama and horror film star Jessica Biel has come a long way since her 7th Heaven roots, but she still retains that All-American, fresh-faced look that would make her the kind of candidate for Wonder Woman that Patty Jenkins initially wanted. It's no wonder she was considered the role for Justice League of America in the early 2000s but turned it down.

6 Cobie Smulders

Maria Hill? As Wonder Woman? Yes, please. Cobie Smulders already kicks some butt for Marvel, but she could do well in a lead role. When Whedon exited the project, he had notes that pointed toward Smulders for the role of Wonder Woman, which was all fans needed in order to start making fanart of the possibilities.
