Celebrities are known for a lot of things, whether it's their acting, their voice, their drama or whatever. It seems like we know every detail about them since their lives are so public...or so we think.
From the very start of her career, Billie Eilish has made it known that she’s not like other celebrities...and she’s not afraid to be different. She’s taken the world by storm with her amazing twist on pop music. Plus, she always seems to surprise us with her interesting style.
She's only 18 and she’s already a Grammy Award-winning artist (five Grammys to be exact) with an adoring fan base that includes many of the world's biggest stars. While we may think we know everything there is to know about her (I mean, she is only 18), Billie still keeps us on our toes.
Here are 15 things Billie Eilish has recently revealed that might just surprise you.
15 Her Big Clothes Have A Big Meaning
One of the most obvious things about Billie Eilish's style is that she prefers to wear clothes that are way oversized.
She told Vogue Australia that she wears baggy clothes so no one can judge her body. It seems as though the media forgets sometimes that she was still just a kid when she got famous. She was only 17 when she called out various news outlets for allowing the size of her chest to trend on Twitter. This happened after she was photographed wearing a tank top.
Come on guys, let’s do better.
14 She's Opened Up About Her Struggle With Mental Illness
After a video of her tics surfaced online, Billie took to Instagram to address the issue. She confirmed that she does have Tourette's syndrome but never talked about it before. She said that she didn’t “want people to think of Tourette’s every time they think of her”.
She also went on to admit, during an interview with Rolling Stone, that she also experiences synesthesia. It's a neurological condition that causes her senses to blend together and associate things with colors, numbers, and shapes.
13 She's A Homebody
If you looked at Billie Eilish’s home life, you would never think she’s a super famous, Grammy Award-winning artist.
Despite her celebrity status, Billie Eilish still chooses to live in her childhood home with her family. She's admitted that the time she has to spend away from her home and friends, because of her touring schedule, has caused a part of her to actually hate being famous.
She said: “I have this amazing thing in front of me, and I don’t want to hate it. And I don’t hate it. But I hate certain parts of it.”
12 She Loves Horseback Riding
When Billie was growing up, she took riding lessons at a stable near her home, and actually worked there as well, so she could afford the lessons. Her family wasn't able to pay for them. She ended up quitting because she didn’t like being “the poor girl at the stable” but has continued riding because it's good for her mental health.
11 Her Strange Addiction
If you aren’t a fan of the show, The Office, I’m sorry, but I just don’t trust you.
Billie Eilish clearly feels the same way. She's pictured here, beyond excited to snap a pic with one of the show's stars, Angela Kinsey. She’s such a fan of the show that she even put quotes from it into her song, “My Strange Addiction”. Clearly, her addiction is to The Office.
10 She Has A Very Interesting Name
While Billie Eilish is interesting enough, her full, real name takes the cake. Eilish is actually part of her middle name, and Pirate is the other! Pirate was going to be her only middle name, but Billie claims her uncle wasn’t a fan since he considered pirates to be “bad”. The name still stuck though, making her full name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. Quite the mouthful!
9 A True Belieber
Okay, many of you have probably already seen this photo if you follow Billie on Instagram, but we thought it was too good to leave out.
While there’s a lot going on in this pic, one thing is clear: Billie Eilish is a HUGE Justin Bieber fan. Things came full circle for her last year when she collaborated with Justin on a remix of her song, “Bad Guy”. Let’s just say she was very excited.
8 She Started Writing Songs When She Was Only 11
Billie Eilish has the type of talent you can only be born with. She began writing songs when she was just 11. She admitted to Harper’s Bazaar that her first song was actually about zombies...inspiration apparently struck after she watched The Walking Dead. The song, called, “Fingers Crossed”, is actually available on SoundCloud.
7 "Ocean Eyes" Wasn't Originally Meant To Launch Her Career
The song that made Billie Eilish as famous as she is, “Ocean Eyes”, was originally written for her dance teacher by her brother, Finneas. She asked Billie for a song she could choreograph a dance to. After it was uploaded to SoundCloud, the song quickly gained popularity and went viral. The rest is history!
6 She's Friends With... Drake?
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Billie Eilish admitted that she frequently exchanges text messages with Drake, calling him “the nicest dude I’ve ever spoken to”. While we're glad the experienced hip-hop artist has taken Billie under his wing, it’s also sparked quite a bit of controversy.
Drake has had a history of being close with young girls in Hollywood, such as Millie Bobby Brown, and this has sort of rubbed people the wrong way. We’re hoping he’s just a fan of young talent.
