Sam Hunt rose to fame thanks to his 2017 hit, Montevallo, and he's been praised for being able to successfully straddle the bridge between the country music genre and the pop music genre. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of his sophomore album.
Hunt tied the knot with Hannah Lee Fowler in April of 2017. The couple are basically the picture-perfect image of an adorable celebrity couple. Whenever they step out into the public eye, they always appear to be utterly flawless.
Even though Hunt seems like a decent sort of fellow, some people aren’t always what they seem...and this includes the country star.
Curious to learn how Hunt can be kind of sketchy? Read on to find out the less-palatable, less-cutesy side of the Montevallo singer.
20 The Singer Recently Got Arrested For DUI
USA Today pointed out that Hunt was arrested recently (in late November of 2019) on DUI charges, after people saw that he had a difficult time keeping his car in one lane.
The police charged him with both DUI and an open can violation, after arresting him in Davidson County. He was granted a $2,500 bond.
19 Multiple Drivers Called The Cops Before They Caught Him
Fox News writes that at least three drivers called 911 after they saw how Hunt was driving in late November, 2019.
In the audio transcript, the callers pointed out that a car was driving southbound, in a lane full of cars that were all driving north. To top it off, Hunt weaved in and out of several lanes before he was arrested.
18 Hunt Is Due Back In Court In January
After Hunt was arrested, he managed to cough up the dough for the $2,500 bail, and was released from the jail he was in.
Sadly, Fox News writes that the country singer is going to have to go to court on January 17th, 2020, and face a judge due to his foolish actions.
17 Embarrassed His Wife By Naming A Song After Her Hometown
According to US Magazine, Hunt’s now-wife, Hannah, was furious when she found out that he had named his 2014 album, Montevallo, after her hometown.
In an attempt to make up for his major faux pas, Hunt took to his guitar and wound up writing the song, Drinkin’ Too Much, as an apology.
16 Used To Constantly Share Pictures Of His Shy Wife Online
US Weekly adds that, while Hannah can be quite shy and doesn’t really like to expose her face in photos that her boyfriend takes, Hunt can be a little bit clueless.
Despite the fact that her body language screams. “I don’t like this at all,” Hunt has posted several of these photos online.
15 Snuck Into Small Airports
Country Fancast notes that, while Hunt’s wife Hannah may be a bit camera-shy on occasion, she’s certainly up for a little adventure.
Both Hunt and Hannah used to sneak inside a small airport on multiple occasions, until they were busted by the cops. Of course, Hunt wrote a song about it, called "Cop Car".
14 The Name Of His Horse Is Racist
Country Fancast reports that, when Hunt was younger, he used to own a Mustang (a horse, not a car) and named his new pet, Comanche.
Needless to say, given how the Native Americans had suffered and are still going through tough times today, this reeks of cultural appropriation and insensitivity.
13 Can Sound A Bit Like He's Ungrateful For His Fame
In an interview with CMT News, the singer came off as a bit ungrateful for all of his success, when he complained about needing a “drastic change of pace and lifestyle” once he became a hit.
Sure, fame isn’t always fun, but there’s plenty of other people that would love to trade places with him, so hush up, my dude.
12 Hates Talking About His Music
CMT News notes that Hunt is also not a big fan of talking about his music constantly. He’ll even get up and leave the room if someone is playing one of his songs.
Doing interviews isn’t always fun and games, but being asked about one’s music (and having to listen to it) comes with the territory, buddy.
11 Made Snarky Remarks When It Was Said That His Music Was In Pop Genre
In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hunt wasn’t thrilled about being placed in the pop genre and quickly shut down that notion with a snarky comment.
The singer pointed out that he is “firmly in the country genre”, and doesn’t know how he could ever be considered a “pop act” in the first place.
