90 Day Fiancé has more than fed the hunger fans of reality television have for drama. While it has always been clear that drama has been a key component in making reality shows a hit in the ratings, no series serves it up better than the TLC hit. The show follows a series of engaged long-distance couples who meet for the first time. They must decide within 90 days if they will get married or go their separate ways.

Shawn and Alliya's journey has been quite an interesting ride. One of the major red flags Shawn has noticed is Alliya's lack of concern about being on time. She was notoriously two hours late to their engagement party. Shawn spoke to the cameras before their big day and expressed his fears that this would be a significant issue for them going forward. It shouldn't have shocked him when Alliya was also late to their wedding. However, to the surprise of everybody, he still decided to go through with the ceremony.

Shawn's Mother Injured Her Ankle And Hip Before The Wedding Ceremony

Alliya's tardiness on her own wedding day didn't exactly come as a shock to anyone closely following the couple's story this season. Shawn actually expressed genuine concern that his bride-to-be wouldn't be able to stick to the timeline they set for the ceremony. These concerns were expressed before the big day. Shawn had legitimate reasons to believe Alliya would be late. She was two hours late to their engagement party. She didn't seem to feel bad about it, either. She simply said that she didn't "want to rush."

The day started off in a bad spot when Shawn's mom, Jeanne, hurt her ankle and hip after falling. Shawn was worried about his mother, but she didn't want to ruin his special day. She insisted that she would be able to wait until the wedding was over before going to the hospital. This must have had Shawn on edge and probably explains a lot of his frustrations later in the episode. As Jeanne waited for the ceremony to start, her leg was resting on a chair in front of her.

The wedding was supposed to start promptly at 5:00 p.m. Aside from her lateness, the outdoor ceremony meant the guests had to endure the hot weather. The weather conditions were understandably making the guests uncomfortable. To add insult to injury, Alliya didn't even put her dress on until 5:30 p.m. This was 30 minutes after the wedding was supposed to start.

Alliya Showed No Remorse After Showing Up Two Hours Late To Her Wedding

The most infuriating part of this whole situation is that Alliya didn't seem to care about the fact that she was late. She never showed an ounce of urgency in her emotion. There was never a moment where she seemed stressed and attempted to hurry up. The concept of being on time and the disrespect it shows others when you aren't was completely lost on her. Alliya made everyone wait in the extreme heat for nearly two hours. She finally showed up at 6:50 p.m. Talk about your diva antics.

Shawn was encouraged not to see the bride before the wedding, but the circumstances left him angry, and he was determined to confront her. Shawn approached Alliya and had an understandable attitude. He was angry and rightfully so. However, when he spoke to Alliya, she seemed to be caught off guard by what he was saying and the way he expressed his feelings. It was as if she had no understanding of her actions, or lack thereof, and how she had done something wrong.

“So I say we walk in the thing, say I do really quick and then go have food and then throw everybody out, OK,” Shawn said when speaking to Alliya. He then rushed her out of the room where she was getting ready. She seemed heartbroken by the scenario, but she is far from a victim in this circumstance. She is a grown woman who should be fully aware that such behavior conveys a real lack of respect.

“I don’t know if culturally that people in Brazil show up whenever they want to a wedding," he told viewers, "but when I first put my eyes on her and see her at the top of the stairs, I am so mad at them and so angry.”

An hour and 45 minutes had passed since the intended start time of the ceremony. Shawn was still very angry about the entire situation and made no effort to cool down beforehand. In fact, he decided to request the officiant rush the ceremony, and just get through "whatever you legally have to do." The ceremony wasn't a happy celebration of their love. Instead, it was a cold, angry, and bitter chore Shawn just wanted to be done with as soon as possible.

As the couple walked up the aisle following the very quick ceremony, someone asked if it lasted "a whole three sentences." Then, it sounded like Shawn replied by saying, "Welcome to citizenship." When watching the wedding and how everything unfolded, the viewer couldn't help but wonder why they chose to go along with it. It certainly seemed like they should've taken that opportunity to think about whether this was something they truly wanted after all. Alliya showed no concern for her lateness and Shawn was willing to cut the ceremony short just to get it over with. If those aren't two big signs that this isn't the right relationship, then I don't know what is.

When Alliya did walk down the aisle, the ceremony was very brief. While the two were pronounced husband and wife, Alliya was still disappointed by how quickly everything moved. Her emotions were understandable, but seemed to lack self-awareness. Not to mention the complete lack of respect she showed Jeanne. Shawn's mother had been so sweet and maternal toward Alliya. Therefore, it was a huge slap in the face to Jeanne to not only make her wait, but make her wait in the condition she was in.

Shawn Insulted His New Bride During His Half-Hearted Attempt At A Wedding Toast

Shawn ended up giving a quick toast while sitting down, instead of standing up and thanking the guests properly. This didn't help Alliya's feelings or the situation. He even threw in a quick dig at his new bride. After thanking people for coming to their wedding, he said, "Alliya, thanks for coming too… finally, when you got around to it."

This moment truly made the guests even more uncomfortable than they already were. In fact, it seemed to ruin the experience for everybody in the room. Seeing Shawn treat Alliya that way made guests feel like they were witnessing a private argument between a couple that should really be happening behind closed doors. The tension in the room was unbearably high and everyone could feel it.

Shawn later revealed in a confessional that he worried if Alliya's actions that day said anything about how she would show up for him during their marriage. If she wasn't there for him on their wedding day, would she be there for him at all? While his concerns were valid, he knew the way she was beforehand. He saw her complete lack of concern after being two hours late for their engagement party. Shawn can't exactly say he was caught off guard by this behavior. He still chose to marry her anyway.

“I’m second guessing myself and second-guessing Alliya,” the hairdresser told the cameras. “And I’m wondering if she can’t give me what I need because she’s dealing with her own issues. If that’s just a forever thing, maybe it’s not meant to be. Maybe I can’t be in this relationship.”
