Unless you were there to see it, there's really now way of understanding just how big Jersey Shore was when it first broke out on MTV. The show featured insane partying, the most chaotic drama, and relationships that pushed people to the brink.
As is the case with any reality show, people want to know more about what didn't make onto the show. Thankfully, a former producer from the show took to Reddit to dish the dirt on the first few seasons on the show.
Believe us when we say that the entire read is remarkable, and we have some of the notable highlights below.
'Jersey Shore' Is A Classic Reality Series
December 2009 marked the debut on Jersey Shore on MTV. The premise looked a lot like The Real World, only this time, the focus would be on fresh faces from the northeast flocking to the Jersey Shore to rage. Little did MTV know that this show would become an instant classic.
The original cast featured Pauly D, Vinny, Ronnie, Mike, Sammi, Jenny, Snooki, and Angelina, and those primary players wrecked havoc on the Shore once they were set loose. The network did an incredible job casting the show, and in no time flat, fans couldn't get enough.
Over time, there would be 6 seasons and over 70 episodes of the show, and from there, we would get to see a number of spin-off projects.
In 2018, Jersey Shore: Family Vacation hit the network, and it's had 5 seasons and over 100 episodes.
The show had it all, but the drama that unfolded was what really kept people coming back for more.
Jersey Shore Had Plenty Of Drama
The first few seasons of Jersey Shore remain an iconic piece of TV history, as there was insane drama from the very beginning. You expect drama when watching reality TV, but this show was utter chaos, which undoubtedly turned it into a major hit.
One of the most memorable moments took place between Mike and Angelina over a lack of cleanliness.
Celeb Magazine noted that "Angelina finally pushed everyone over the edge after she left a used menstrual pad on the bathroom floor. Mike, chivalrous as always, left it under her pillow, which turned into a fight between the pair. Mike dropped the mic when he called her a, 'dirty little hamster.'"
The truth is that all of the cast members had a ton of drama both within the group, and with those on the outside. This drama propelled the show to great ratings.
As we've stated, those early seasons played an important part in the show taking off, and some time ago, a former producer from those early seasons gave the scoop on what really went down. Needless to say, some reveals were shocking.
A Producer Opened Up About The Truth Behind The Show
A couple years back on Reddit, a "field producer on the first two Jersey Shore seasons (this includes the episodes that were filmed back in Jersey after Miami-- that season is popularly referred to as "season 3" but for us in production it's season 2B)," took the time do an AMA, and truth bombs were dropped.
For instance, Pauly D, who can be the life of the party on camera, is totally different off camera.
"He's friendly. But when the cameras are down, he's extremely reserved. Carrying a conversation with him can be like pulling teeth," the producer said.
The producer also revealed which cast member was the worst to work with.
"Angelina. Dear god... I still have PTSD."
It was also noted that Ron and Sam's infamous season three fight "was horrible and far more intense than what aired," and that "the fourth wall was broken a couple of times."
Overall, the read is incredible, and it gives some amazing insight into what the show didn't actually air.
For instance, there was an early hook up that fans never got to see.
"Jenni and Mike hooking up during season 1," was a moment that the producer said was a standout moment that didn't air.
Another major reveal was that, while Ron was as bad as advertised, Sam got good treatment from the crew.
"It was portrayed pretty accurately. If anything, Sam got a great edit. I think their relationship was toxic but it wasn't one sided. I'll leave it at that."
Again, if you have the time and you're a fan of the show, then this AMA is a must-read. The major reveals are fantastic.
