When looking at the biggest comedic actors of all time, there aren't many that come close to matching Adam Sandler's success. Say what you want about the quality of some of his movies, but Sandler has done well at the box office, and he has done so while working with people he enjoys being around.
Adam Sandler has had countless hits at the box office, and most people think they might know which film of his stands above the rest, but they would likely be wrong. Let's take a look at Sandler and the biggest film he's ever made.
Adam Sandler Is A Netflix Powerhouse
These days, Adam Sandler has been pumping out all of his work on Netflix. People were surprised to see him make the transition to the streaming platform, but Netflix offered him a bounty, and he has been getting a ton of eyes on his movies.
According to World of Reel, "Adam Sandler has benefited tremendously from the streaming era. If his films were starting to underperform in the early 2010s at the box-office, his 2015 partnership with Netflix has expanded his global audience to new territories and consequentially made him the top streaming star in the world. To the point where today Netflix announced that its audience watched more than 2 billion hours worth of Adam Sandler movies since 2015. Wowza. This has led the streaming giant to having the actor sign a new four movie deal with them worth up to $275 million."
Just how many people check out his work on Netflix?
"Netflix claims that 83 million households watched “Murder Mystery” in its first four weeks of release," World of Reel reported.
It's pretty obvious to see why Sandler and Netflix have decided to stay in business with one another.
For those that grew up with Sandler, however, we were accustomed to hitting theaters to go see his latest releases, and during his peak years in the industry, Adam Sandler was a sure thing at the box office.
He Used To Conquer The Box Office
After breaking away from Saturday Night Live and finally catching on with mainstream audiences during the 1990s, Adam Sandler started hitting one home run after the next at the box office. The man was on one impressive roll, and it made him one of the most bankable stars on the planet.
Once the actor took off, he released hits like Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, Anger Management, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and the hits just kept rolling from there.
Again, Sandler was basically a sure thing at the box office, and while his movies weren't making crazy amounts of money, they were still performing well enough for the actor to consistently put out the type of movie that he wanted to.
To his credit, Sandler did things the right way. He made the movies that he wanted to make with the people that he wanted to make them with, and he always knew what to deliver to his loyal audience.
As the actor himself once said, "I do love the films I’ve done in the past. I work hard in my movies and my friends work hard and we’re trying to make people laugh and I’m very proud of that."
Adam Sandler has had many hits at the box office, and the biggest box office hit of his career might come as a bit of a surprise to people.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation Made Over $520 Million
So, what movie is the biggest of Adam Sandler's box office career? In what should come as a surprise, his biggest movie is Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which made over $520 million.
The Hotel Transylvania franchise was a huge hit largely thanks to the work of Adam Sandler and his closest friends, and it was a mainstay at the box office for quite some time. Regardless of which film you personally think is the best, the numbers don't lie, and global audiences turned out in droves to go see the third installment in the beloved animated franchise.
After three successful turns playing Drac in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, Adam Sandler decided to hand the reins over to YouTuber Brian Hull.
Director Derek Drymon dished on why Sandler decided to turn things over to Hull in an interview.
"The fact that [Sandler] turns into a human [in the new film] was a good opportunity to do things a little differently. He could be a little different than he was in the movies, and it would be natural," Drymon said.
Hotel Transylvania 3 might not be Sandler's best movie, but it's his biggest.
