Another A24 film has been entered into the chronicles of the horror genre with Bodies Bodies Bodies. The film is a black comedy horror about a group of wealthy young adults who throw a hurricane party at a remote mansion. But when a party game goes horribly wrong, the horror ensues. Let's leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
The film stars Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and SNL graduate/Kim Kardashian ex Pete Davidson. It is the English language directorial debut of Halina Reijn and it was written by Sarah DeLappe, a playwright and the daughter of artist Joseph Delappe. Reviews for the film have been excellent for the most part, although one in The New York Times called it "Euphoria with knives," and "an advertisement for cleavage." But as the film grows in popularity, fans are eager to learn more about this young cast, and what their futures in Hollywood might be.
8 Amandla Stenberg
Stenberg is an award-winning actress who was born in 1998. She debuted on film in 2011's Colombiana but it was her role as Rue in The Hunger Games that put her on the path to mainstream success. From there, she appeared in television shows like Sleepy Hollow and films like The Darkest Minds. But it was her role in The Hate U Give that earned her prominent recognition, including an NAACP Image Award and a Critic's Choice Award. Stenberg was caught up in a small controversy when she DMed NYT film critic, Lena Wilson, voicing issues she took with the critic's harsh review. Wilson responded by posting the DMs, but the internet quickly turned against her when she accused Stenberg of homophobia (Stenberg identifies as gay). Wilson has since deleted her social media accounts.
7 Maria Bakalova
Bakalova is a Bulgarian actress who broke through in American film in 2020 thanks to her role in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, also known as Borat 2. While filming, Bakalova was caught up in a very controversial moment while interviewing Donald Trump's former attorney and ex-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani. Hidden camera footage of their interaction showed Guiliani sticking his hand down his pants, and a panicking Borat (Sasha Baron Cohen) interrupted the interaction. Prior to her debut in America, she had starred in popular European films like Transgression, and Last Call.
6 Myha'la Herrold
One can argue that Myha'la Herrold's breakthrough role is her role as Jordan in Bodies Bodies Bodies. Herrold was born in 1996, and her first role ever was a background player in a mostly unknown film from 2018 called Rehabilitation of the Hill. Her first speaking role came in 2019 when she played Dyamond in Premature. That same year, she also played a girl named Tami in the romance anthology series Modern Love. Prior to her work in film she was working mostly as a stage actress, most notable was her performance in the popular satirical musical The Book of Mormon. She has also been cast in the HBO series Industry.
5 Chase Sui Wonders
Chase Sui Wonders was born in 1996 and she has already acted in several films and written and directed a few. She directed Last Migration in 2015 and wrote and directed A Trivial Exclusion in 2009. She began to make waves when in 2019 she starred in the horror film Daniel Isn't Real and in 2020 she had a role in director Sofia Coppola's On The Rocks. She has since been cast to play Samantha in the Apple+ series City Of Fire, which is based on a popular book by Garth Risk Hallberg.
4 Rachel Sennott
Sennott became prominent as an internet comedian in the late 2010s thanks to her tweets lampooning Millennial culture, LA film buff culture, and more. She has been listed as a comedian to watch by several publications, and her acting career began in 2018 with a role in the short film Shiva Baby and the television show High Maintenance.
3 Lee Pace
Marvel fans will recognize Pace immediately as Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy and as Thranduil in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. He also played Garrett in the Twilight films, was in the short-lived CBS black comedy series Pushing Daisies, and several box-office hits, like Lincoln, The Good Shepard, and Captain Marvel. Pace is married to an executive named Matthew Foley and he also acted in several stage plays.
2 Pete Davidson
Most, by now, know who Pete Davidson is so here is the short version of his bio: Davidson is a comedian and actor who starred on SNL for several years and he made his solo film debut with 2020's The King Of Staten Island. Davidson is also famous for his long list of ex-girlfriends, most of whom are beautiful stars like Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale, and of course, Kim Kardashian. While dating Kim, Davidson was subject to constant harassment from Kim's ex-husband, Kanye West, who went so far as to encourage his fans to harass the SNL star. Fun fact: Davidson is famously covered in tattoos, but said tattoos were covered up for his role in Bodies Bodies Bodies.
1 Directed By Halina Reijn
The director of this film also deserves recognition as the film is a breakthrough for her as well. Halina Reijn is a Dutch actress and filmmaker whose films have been praised by European critics and made the rounds at several international film festivals for years, but Bodies Bodies Bodies is her first all-English language production. She has a long list of film credits to her name, as well as many stage plays, one of the most notable is her frequent role as Ophelia in William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
