James was arrested in Burbank on December 10, but news of the incident did not become public knowledge for two days.
He was booked on charges of misdemeanor domestic violence, and on December 12, we reported:
"[TMZ indicated] that the 'Burbank City Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case for possible charges,' and that James was released on $20,000 bail."
On December 16, we followed up with news that Ally was spotted moving some of her possessions out of their shared Burbank home, and at the time, myriad reports suggested Ally and James had "no plans to split."
Ally reportedly decamped to an AirBNB, after some of her family members visited to support her during the high-profile aftermath of James' arrest.
TMZ's photographers caught scenes of Ally moving, and the outlet said:
"Our sources say Ally plans to spend the upcoming holiday back in Ohio with her family. Whether James will join her remains uncertain."
In recent days, reports have circulated indicating that James sought a reconciliation during their separation, along with breakup rumors attributed to "insiders" with knowledge of the situation.
For the most part, Ally has been quiet since James' arrest, but she updated fans via Instagram Story this week.

Ally On The Night Of James' Arrest
On Wednesday, January 22, Ally shared an Instagram Story about her breakup with James.
Instagram Stories expire after 24 hours, and hers began: "Thank you all for your support and kindness. I am happy that prosecutors decided not to file against James, as I never desired criminal charges."
She also explained what happened the night James was arrested, writing:
"We had an argument outside of his home related to him drinking again, however, I was not physically hurt.
"I was shocked by the headlines and disheartened by how the event was portrayed."
Finally, Ally confirmed that she and James were "no longer together."
Her story concluded:
We are no longer together, but I'll always support James and wish him the best with his sobriety and healing.
Thank you for your understanding.
On the day Ally disclosed the breakup, People obtained a statement from James' lawyer, Scott Leemon, confirming that Burbank dropped the charges.
Scott said: "[The Burbank City Attorney's Office] diligent investigation confirmed what we have maintained from the beginning — there were no grounds for any charges to be filed against Mr. Kennedy. James is grateful to have this matter behind him and is looking forward to continuing to focus on his sobriety and his DJ career."
