Fans Are Still Ripping TBBT Over Amy's Attitude During Fun With Flags

We turn back to 2012 for this moment. Hard to believe that over a decade later, fans are still discussing the scene on Reddit, and expressing their discontent with how it all played out. The users on Reddit aren't alone as the episode in question, The Habitation Configuration, has a particularly lower rating compared to the others with a 7.6 stars out of 10. The season six episode sees Amy losing her cool on Wil Wheaton. Her criticism was deemed irrational by fans, and pretty much downright annoying. A Reddit user discussed how he couldn't stand the opening scene with Amy, and other users were quick to agree.

One fan wrote, "Yeah, that was one of the episodes that I think the writers reaaaalllyyyy messed up. Like, i could see Sheldon doing it, but not Amy. It was too out of character for her. Too childish and arrogant. She was sooo in the wrong. And I also couldn't believe when Penny and Leonard told Sheldon he should take her side no matter what. I honestly have no idea how and why that episode/script got a "go" sign to be shot and aired."

There was another entire Reddit thread dedicated to why Amy was in the wrong with Wil Wheaton. For the most part, fans didn't like how much of an out of character moment it was for Amy. Identifying the worst moments, this scene always comes up and is deemed "hard to watch" by most fans.

Behind the scenes, Mayim Bialik had some other tough moments while portraying Amy. Perhaps her toughest came during what is considered one of the best episodes, Amy and Sheldon's wedding. Bialik revealed, “I had started losing weight a few months ago. Why? Because I needed to,” she wrote. “I was not comfortable at my weight and I started eating much better and exercising and lo and behold; I lost some weight. I felt so much more comfortable in my own skin. And then I got a series of antibiotic-needing bacterial illnesses and was not allowed to work out for a month. And so, I gained the weight back."

Mayim Bialik's most recent role came during the Young Sheldon finale.

Although Bialik looked great, she didn't feel that way during the shoot.

"I felt ashamed. I felt like maybe the wardrobe ladies were looking at me like, ‘Oh, she tried to lose weight and maybe she didn’t have the willpower.’ They probably would never think that; it’s my brain thinking that. But that’s the truth. I didn’t feel my best. And I felt crummy about it. Even though everyone said I looked beautiful, I didn’t feel completely beautiful.”

Ultimately, Bialik was the perfect fit as Amy, despite some tougher scenes from her own perspective. She took on the role without having watched a single Big Bang Theory episode. This might've been an advantage for the actress, who really didn't know what she was getting herself into. It was a risky role being matched with Sheldon, but Amy made it work and gave the show a completely different layer in terms of storylines that it needed.
