Interviews can take a turn in an instant. In this case, NewsMax's Mike Sellers had a feeling things were not going to plan prior. The guest on the day was My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell. The entrepreneur was making headlines for defending Donald Trump, and making claims that the election was rigged. We'll take a look back at his comments during the interview, and how it would cause Mike Sellers to leave not even midway through.
We're also going to take a look at another example of a host walking out, or contemplating leaving an interview. It took place with some of the top interviewers in the world such as Oprah Winfrey. We'll reveal why Oprah almost dipped on a $2 million interview, along with taking a look at a separate moment that saw Winfrey cut to commercial after she wasn't pleased with a certain guest.
My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell Got In Trouble With His Personal Accounts On Twitter
Back in early 2021, controversial My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell found himself in a serious mess, and that included getting banned on Twitter. His account was suspended by the social media platform for making false claims about Donald Trump winning the election months prior. Lindell didn't even seem bothered by the suspension, and wanted things to stay that way.
He revealed during his controversial interview alongside Newsmax, "No, I want it to be permanent, because I'm revealing all the evidence on Friday of all the election fraud with these machines."
It was at that point in which the interview started to take a turn, with Lindell pointing at interviewer Mike Sellers and saying, "you're as bad as Twitter."
Nobody could've predicted what would come next during the interview, as host Mike Sellers clearly had enough, and decided to dip in the middle of the interview. As fans can see in the video, at least he let his producer know prior...
Mike Sellers Had Enough Of Mike Lindell's False Claims And Wanted An Abrupt End To The Interview
Mike Sellers started to lose his cool when Lindell kept questioning the voting system, along with the integrity of NewsMax. Still, Sellers tried keeping his composure.
He tells Lindell, "Let me read you something," said Sellers. "While there (was) some clear evidence of some cases of vote fraud and election irregularities, the election results in every state were certified and Newsmax accepts the results as legal and final. The courts have also supported that view."
Ultimately, cooler heads did not prevail, and Sellers asked to leave the interview, upset with the false information.
"Can I ask our producers? Can we get out of here, please?" don't want to have to keep going over this. We at Newsmax have not been able to verify any of these allegations."
Fans on YouTube clearly had fun with the moment given all the random comments. It wasn't taken seriously and looking back, it was a hilarious moment to see Sellers just get up and leave.
As for NewsMax, they issued a statement following the interview, “NewsMax and its anchor only wanted to make clear that it has found no evidence of software manipulation involving the election. However, Mr. Lindell is entitled to his own opinion and has a different viewpoint than ours.”
Although the interview didn't go to plan, it wasn't the first time a host walked out, or contemplated leaving.
It Wasn't The Only Time An Interviewer Wanted To Cut Things Short And End It Early
Even the top interviewers in the world considered dipping out on major stars. Oprah is a prime example of this taking place. Among her most memorable interviews included her time alongside Lindsay Lohan, in the midst of the star's downfall. Lohan was given $2 million for the interview, but Oprah almost ended things early given that Lohan wasn't cooperating with those behind the camera.
Oprah said at the time, "This is just what everyone warned me would happen (working with her). And it is. My truth is, I really do want you to win, but if that isn't what you want, I'm okay with that. I will tell these guys to pack up and leave today."
Thankfully, the interview was able to get back on track, while Lohan was also on the road to her recovery. It would lead to a lifelong friendship between Oprah and Lohan, with Lindsay crediting Oprah for being there for her after the interview.
It wasn't the only time Oprah contemplated cutting things short. She went to an abrupt interview out of nowhere during her time alongside Barbra Streisand. Oprah wasn't pleased after she realized Barbra had painted her microphone white. Once Oprah realized what had taken place, she cut to commercial, likely as a way to gather herself. Although Winfrey revealed she wasn't pleased, the interview turned out to be just fine, and Streisand was a recurring guest throughout the years.
