Andy Cohen, the reigning king of Bravo, is known for giving his honest opinion about the celebrities he has interacted with due to the many shows and documentaries he has been a part of. When it comes to guests on his popular late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live the same rules apply.
With over 20 seasons and 1,800 episodes, Andy Cohen's WWHL is one of the most successful late-night talk shows. The pop-culture-based talk show covers Bravo's reality TV shows heavily but also talks about all things trending in Hollywood. Andy's charm and charisma go a long way with guests and audiences, but not every guest has a good time on the series as Andy does.
Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live Attracts All The Celebs
Over the years, Watch What Happens Live has hosted a variety of high-profile and unforgettable guests, contributing to the show's success. Nicki Swift reported notable appearances include Mariah Carey, who brought her signature diva style, once famously shading Jennifer Lopez with her iconic "I don't know her" comment.
Another memorable guest was Lady Gaga, who stunned viewers with her candid revelations and engaging persona. Meryl Streep, an Academy Award-winning actor, also graced the Bravo clubhouse, delighting fans with her presence. Even Oprah Winfrey has stopped by to share her insights on pop culture!
Andy Cohen has an estimated net worth of $50 million.
Additionally, political figures like Hillary Clinton and pop stars like Joe Jonas have kept the show’s content diverse, mixing celebrity interviews with pop culture discussions. These eclectic guests showcase the range of personalities Cohen interacts with, making WWHL a must-watch for pop culture enthusiasts.
The show is also known for its out-of-the-box segments. While most late-night talk shows ask straightforward questions about the celebrity's latest project, WWHL seeks to be a little more interesting.
- Segments include "Plead the Fifth" where celebrities are asked tough or scandalous questions, and they can only skip one.
- "Spill the Tea" is a game where guests share behind-the-scenes gossip or personal stories.
- "Versace or Hibachi" is when Cohen shows the guests their past red carpet looks and asks them whether they stand by their fashion choices or not.
At the end of the night, WWHL is light-hearted, quick to watch, and a fun time for everyone involved. However, some guests have a better connection with Andy than others.
Who Made The Worst Impression On WWHL?
Andy Cohen has been candid about some of the most challenging guests he’s had on the show. Heavy reported that Cohen didn’t hold back when naming Amber Rose and Debra Winger as among the worst in a podcast interview on "Two Ts in a Pod," which is hosted by Orange County Housewife Tamra Judge and former Beverly Hills Housewife, Teddy Mellencamp.
Amber Rose | A model and television personality. | Appeared on WWHL in 2015 |
Debra Winger | The American actress known for Urban Cowboy and An Officer and a Gentleman. | Appeared on WWHL in 2018 |
Amber Rose appeared on WWHL in 2015, and her episode was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
"...[Amber Rose] didn’t want to answer any of the questions I was asking her. And she was wearing sunglasses."
It's famously hard to interview someone when you can't see their eyes, and Rose never took off her shades throughout her appearance on WWHL. On top of that, she refused to answer Cohen’s playful questions.
Of the incident, Cohen said on The Rachael Ray Show, "Amber Rose came on and she didn’t want to answer any of the questions I was asking her. And she was wearing sunglasses." She also refused his request to rank the Kardashian-Jenners, and adamantly declared she would not be discussing ex-boyfriend Kanye West on the air.
Because of Amber's former romance with Kanye and friendship with the Kardashian-Jenners, they were large reasons why she was invited as a guest on WWHL, and why audiences tuned in.
- Anyone who has seen WWHL knows that these kinds of push-the-envelope questions are asked cheekily, and usually, guests don't take them too seriously. However, it seems Rose didn't get that memo.
At one point, Cohen even joked that she was "in the running" for one of the worst guests ever due to her lack of participation in the fun and candid style of the show. To make things more uncomfortable, Rose turned the tables on Cohen, asking him personal questions about his relationship with Anderson Cooper, which added to the awkwardness.
Debra Winger’s appearance in 2018 also left a lasting impression — though not in a good way. During her segment, Winger criticized Cohen for his lack of preparation and made the conversation quite tense, particularly when he asked her to rank the kissing abilities of her co-stars.
Heavy reported that Winger snapped back at Andy, questioning the relevance of such a question and implying that Cohen should have done more research.
Oh God, what were you doing 40 years ago? So you remember somebody you kissed 30 years ago?
Winger continued jabbing Andy, "You don’t think that you sort of are busy investigating a character, which kind of puts you in another self-state?” Despite a friendly vibe off-camera, their on-camera chemistry was notably strained. “You know what’s weird about Debra Winger?” Andy Cohen said when asked about the interview, “We really did connect, and during the commercial break, she kept saying, ‘You know, you’re like my Jewish little brother. I feel connected to you.’ But then when the camera came on, she wasn’t having me.”
Both Debra and Amber have not been back in the clubhouse since their one-off appearance.
Is Anyone Banned From Appearing On WWHL?
Unfortunately, Andy Choen and the Bravo world have been plagued with lawsuits from former Bravo stars. Andy has certainly faced his fair share of shady comments towards Bravolebrities, and now celebrities are hitting back by refusing to be on his set.
While Andy was forthright about guests who weren't so pleasant, he wouldn't go so far as to say who would never be asked back to the show.
On Two T's and a Pod, Andy elaborated, "I can’t say it. It’s not a Housewife, it’s not an ex-Housewife either. It’s nobody in the Bravosphere." However he did add, "I will say ‘The Shahs of Sunset’ used to come on and they would be so amped up being in New York that they would just torch the place.”
Cohen, always gracious when it comes to his Bravolebs, added "They would torch all of their cast members and it would be kind of unsustainable. Or there could be a Housewife or a Bravolebrity who comes on and maybe it’s their first appearance and they’re nervous, but I always give them grace… you’re plucking normal people into the public eye and suddenly they’re on a talk show? There’s no guidebook for it.”
Despite those unfortunate interactions, the show continues to ask its shady questions and have its unique segments, and pop culture is better for it.
