When Lindsay Lohan started appearing in the headlines again, fans were thrilled. This time, she wasn't creating new scandals: she's just appearing in some Netflix films! It's true that Lindsay hasn't had a hit in a while, but fans are wondering if her newest projects might be a bit improved and whether they're worth watching
Lindsay Lohan's Acting History Is Fraught With Controversy
Lindsay's reputation in Hollywood isn't great. She earned a bad rep on the set of Georgia Rule, appeared in some projects that were labeled downright awful, and had fans shaking their heads after rumors of a feud between Lohan and Megan Fox emerged.
True, she did have her ups and downs in the industry. But remember Parent Trap? And Mean Girls?
Clearly, it wasn't always her acting that was the issue, especially early on. But it seemed like everyone was out to get Lindsay — including herself!
Lindsay even missed out on one childhood role that fans think could have helped her remain relevant (and off the Hollywood blacklist).
Netflix Partnered With Lindsay For Two Films In 2022
Lindsay penned a deal with Netflix for two films in 2022; Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish.
In a Netflix news release ahead of the Christmas film's debut (November 10th, 2022), the streamer dropped some stills from the movie and some choice quotes from Lohan herself.
Interestingly (especially years post-feud with Paris Hilton), Lindsay plays "hotel heiress Sierra, whose new engagement goes off the rails when she gets into a skiing accident that leaves her with total amnesia."
Lohan called her character, "Extravagant. Temperamental. Glamorous," in the interview, stating that her return to Falling for Christmas was, in part, because she missed doing "those kinds of movies."
The "refreshing, heartwarming romantic comedy" is slated to come out first, while Irish Wish seems to be next on the agenda, though Netflix specifically notes that it's "the first project to come out of Lohan's creative partnership" with them.
It sounds like there might be more collabs in the future... At least, if these two do well. Which begs the question, are Lindsay's new movies worth watching?
Are Lindsay Lohan's New Netflix Movies Worth Watching?
Many fans are already planning to stream Lindsay's films when they hit Netflix, albeit somewhat reluctantly.
It seems that the genre of the films is what has Redditors, at least, guffawing and wondering how many romantic comedies with the same tropes viewers really need.
Comments on one thread ranged from jokes about the romantic lead (Chord Overstreet, apparently AKA "the dude from Glee") to kudos for Lindsay for getting back out there.
One fan even wrote, "This is the kind of movie you only consider watching out of a sense of support for the main actor/actress. It's like seeing Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas. We all knew we were seeing the movie because she was in it."
But there might be more to love about the movies than solely Lohan's comeback.
As Deadline notes, the team behind Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish also produced The Princess Switch movies (a Vanessa Hudgens headliner) and various Christmas flicks. So they could be good based on that alone. At least, for people who enjoy the canned romance stories a la Hallmark.
As for Irish Wish, that romantic film might be somewhat less predictable, even if Netflix has already given away the plot.
Of course, it turns out the groom isn't her soulmate, and thus begins the adventure. Redditors weren't particularly thrilled with the news, and neither was Twitter.
Jokes about how terrible the film will be (simply because it's meant to be set in Ireland but will likely not be filmed on location) ran rampant.
But that doesn't mean people won't tune in! In fact, Netflix might see a surge thanks to Lindsay's notoriety, and who knows what else they may collaborate on together afterward.
