It takes one small moment to make an interview go completely south. We've seen so many examples of that in the past, including Samuel L. Jackson completely losing it over an interviewer identifying him as another person, or heck, Adam Driver completely walking out of an interview after a clip was played of him singing, despite his requests not to hear that part.
Ariana Grande had a similar moment, though she kept her cool while dropping some knowledge on the interviewers. We'll look back at that moment and how it all went down.
Ariana Grande Has A History Of Uncomfortable Interview Moments
Put up a quick search on platforms like YouTube, and it'll become obvious very quickly, Ariana Grande is not immune to awkward interviews. Heck, over 10-minute long compilations have been made on Grande's reactions during certain interviews, there really is a long list of them.
One of them included blasting none other than Ryan Seacrest for not asking Grande a question but instead, issuing her a statement. She was quick to put the host in his place over it... despite his high-powered status in the world of interviews and hosting. Grande would state that Ryan didn't have the right to know about why she posted a certain Instagram photo, and neither do the millions of his listeners.
There are countless other examples of Ariana changing her tone after something awkward was said in an interview. Clearly, Grande doesn't try to hide her emotions when something takes place that she isn't for. That would be the case during this particular interview, as the questioning from the radio hosts became a little too soft for Grande's liking.
Ariana Grande Was Not Content With The Sexist Questions The Power 106 FM Team Had For Her Back In 2015
It took one question for this interview to go completely downhill. It was all lighthearted and fun until this question was thrown Ariana's way. "If you could use makeup or your phone one last time, which one would you use?" Grande's facial expression quickly changed, as she was taken back by the question. She would respond by saying, “Is this what you think girls have trouble choosing between? Is this men assuming that’s what girls would have to choose between?”
Grande would further state that she doesn't need a phone on her 24/7 and instead, she can go many hours without. The singer admitted she enjoys the basic things in life, like just chatting with family during dinner, without the use of technology.
Things would only get worse from there when one of the interviewers made mention that girls use the unicorn emoji, once again, the pop star was not pleased with this statement either.
“Many boys use the unicorn. You need a little brushing up on equality – come on! Who says the unicorn emoji isn’t for men?”
She finished off the interview by taking an obvious shot at the host, stating that things need to change in the world, especially when it comes to equality.
“I have a long list of things I’d like to change. I think just sort of judgment in general .. intolerance, meanness, intolerance, double-standards, misogyny, racism, sexism, all that s—. There’s lots that we gotta get started on. That’s what we need to focus on! We have to work to do.”
Of course, back in 2015, the interview went viral and made headlines everywhere. Turns out that for the most part, fans were completely in support of Grande's decision to stand up for herself and other female listeners.
Fans Praised Ariana Grande For Her Reaction During The Interview
Fans on YouTube were in agreement, Grande made the right decision to say what she did. If anything, fans acknowledge that it could very well be a teaching point for the interviewers.
"I hope the interviews realized how embarrassing this is. Do they even know who Ariana is? I wouldn't have handled this as well as she did. I would have been telling them how sexist, rude, and insulting it was. Imagine being the mother of these interviewers? I'd be so ashamed."
"Best part when she says "Boys and girls, we can all learn". That s so nice and she fights so hard for equality, I love her sooo much."
"Those are the most sexist men I have ever seen. I’m not even a huge fan of Miss Grande but I’m really proud of her because she defended us females."
Clearly, fans agreed with Grande's reaction, and it likely served as a great teaching point for all those involved, including the fans.
