Arnold Schwarzenegger Didn't Shy Away From Telling David Letterman The Truth About His PED Use
Even back in 1985, Arnold was incredibly articulate during interviews, and that held true in a stressful environment alongside David Letterman on the Late Show. During his appearance, Letterman asked Arnold about his time in the world of bodybuilding, and the role PEDs have on the sport. Arnold gave a great answer to the question, discouraging others from taking it.
"Some people believe it actually does put on muscle size for a short period of time. But the idea of it is bad. It is a drug. As a sport itself, we want to build health and not destroy it."
Letterman would then ask Arnold if he ever took them himself, which he says without hesitation, "Oh, sure."
Arnold would go on to say that he didn't feel much of a difference when he was natural compared to enhanced, aside from psychological factors. Ultimately, Arnold encouraged everyone to keep it natural.

Arnold's Stance On PED's Hasn't Changed, And He's Encouraging Others To Stay Away From Them
Still today, Schwarzenegger is discussing his past steroid use, and once again, he's telling other bodybuilders not to take the same path.
“Bodybuilding always, always was considered a safe sport. But now it’s not. Now people are dying — they’re dying because of overdoses of drugs and they don’t know what the f— they’re doing,” he said. “They’re listening to charlatans. If I want to get medical advice from a doctor, I go to UCLA or I go to the Cleveland Clinic.”
For Arnold, his best advice has stayed the same, and that is to avoid steroids by all means.
“Don’t go there,” he said. “Yes, we are at a time now where we always look for the easy way to make money, the fast way to get rich, the easy way to be an influencer. Anytime you abuse the body, you’re going to regret it. So I just want young people to know that I have seen people getting kidney transplants and suffering tremendously from it.” “I recognize the fact that, who am I to say this?” Schwarzenegger added.
He remains consistent years later with what he said in an interview over 35 years ago.
