Aubrey Plaza just made her debut on The Howard Stern Show, and fans can't stop talking about her unusual demeanor. Even the host was reportedly thrown off behind the scenes. Howard Stern, like most fans, was expecting the "awkward queen" to grace the show. But either the actress wasn't in the mood or the host just didn't know how to handle his guest's personality, like Stephen Colbert's "intimate moment" with Plaza.

While The White Lotus alum shared shocking details about her stroke when she was 20, Howard seemed more interested in her new project with Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis. Unfortunately, Aubrey wasn't feeling the topic. Here's why the multimillionaire radio host felt like "pulling teeth" during the interview.

Aubrey Plaza Was Surprisingly Serious On The Howard Stern Show

Aubrey Plaza Was Serious Talking About Working With Francis Ford Coppola

During the interview (September 12), Howard asked Aubrey if she felt "offended" that she needed to audition for Coppola's new movie. The self-proclaimed "King of all Media" thought the Dirty Grandpa star's "acclaim" following The White Lotus meant she didn't have to audition for anything. The actress seemed annoyed by the question, that she gave the host a brief and serious answer.

"F*** no. I mean with him? No," Aubrey duh-ingly said of Howard's opinion that Francis Ford Coppola could have just "given" her the part.

The Emmy nominee also revealed that she was still shooting the HBO series when she was tapped for Megalopolis. "I was actually shooting White Lotus when I got the call about auditioning for [Coppola]. They wanted me to do a chemistry read." But due to Covid restrictions, Aubrey had to say no to the initial audition.

She remembered, "It was kind of one of those things where it's like you say no, and then maybe they want you more kind of thing." And just when she thought she didn't get the role, she got the call.

"I got a call and they said 'Well actually, [Coppola will] Zoom with you,'" she told Howard. "He emailed me himself... They said, 'He wants to send you the script himself because he actually doesn't want you to take the meeting unless you want to do unless you read the script and you want to do the script.'"

Aubrey further explained that the director "only wanted people that believed in his vision" because it was such "a passion project" for him. While fans enjoyed other behind-the-scenes revelations from the actress, like Francis only calling her by her character's name, one noticed: "I think this is the first time I have ever seen her serious in an interview." Howard even looked like an over-excited fan opposite his guest. Aubrey was neither her typical sarcastic self nor that thrilled to be there...

Aubrey said Francis "doesn't need her defense" amid the speculations about Megalopolis' rocky "experimentation".

After the interview, a source exclusively told The Daily Mail that Howard felt like he was "pulling teeth" while talking to Aubrey. He also accused her of being late to the program. As it turned out, the SiriusXM star was so "excited" about meeting the actress, but the feeling just wasn't mutual. "Howard was beyond excited to talk to Aubrey and it just didn't work out, she didn't answer anything and it was like pulling teeth for Howard to get anything out of her," they claimed.

The insider added: "Howard is one of the best in the business and he couldn't crack the code with Aubrey."

The source went on to say that the Emily the Criminal star "wasn't playing ball" with Howard, who "back in the day, would have ripped into her and ended the interview." Instead, he reportedly "continued to try to make something out of nothing, unfortunately nothing prevailed." It's reminiscent of the host trying to get "intimate" details from an unexpectedly serious Will Ferrell.

At that time, Howard also thought Will would come in with his onscreen comedic persona. But during the show, he refused to participate in Howard's crude talk about his wife. What really disappointed the host was when the Elf star said he didn't take advantage of his Saturday Night Live fame to get women. But Howard was really sore about his "disaster" interview with Aubrey.

"After Aubrey's interview, the show came back and was playing Bad Company and Howard talked about the band," said the source, "but it was done as a hidden shot towards Aubrey, as she was bad company on the show."

Honestly, Howard shouldn't take it as a personal hit on him. Just take a look at Aubrey's few other awkward interviews here:

Despite her rather dry conversation with Howard Stern about Francis Ford Coppola, Aubrey Plaza spilled details about the stroke she suffered at age 20. "It was wild. It happened mid-sentence," she said of her sudden illness. "I took the train to Astoria to have lunch with my friends and I walked into their apartment ― I hadn't even taken my jacket off ― and it just happened." It was "out of character" for fans, who are not used to seeing the actress in a serious emotional moment.

Aubrey recalled being "paralyzed only for a minute" and losing "motor skills" like talking.

Although the experience was "terrifying," Aubrey said it gave her a new perspective that likely changed her life at such a young age. "It was terrifying, I thought I'd never speak again," she confessed, "but it was also kind of like, 'Oh wait a minute there's more going on here, because I'm watching my brain malfunction.'" Despite her touching story, the Daily Mail source said that Aubrey may not be invited to The Howard Stern Show again.

"She just didn't vibe with Howard, the show or anything. It was just a complete disaster," said the source. "The chances of Aubrey ever returning to the show are worse than slim and none,' they added. 'She was not good at all, and he loathed how it all turned out."

Aubrey has never been on hormones or hormonal birth control since her stroke. It was the only new thing she'd taken in her body the day she was paralyzed.
