Jonathan Takes Responsibility For His Romance With Jenn Tran Failing
After Jonathan Johnson’s surprising departure from The Bachelorette, he has been reflecting on his relationship with Jenn Tran, and as he told PEOPLE, he believes he was the one who let their romance fail.
He opened up about his feelings about Jann and the show, and what he would do differently if he could do it all over again.
“I've never been good at validating my own feelings — I think a lot of people struggle with validating their own feelings,” he shared.
“And I've found that on the show, especially with Jenn’s help. So I think, moving forward, I'm just going to be like, ‘Hey, do you love this person? Do you like this person? Are you sad? Are you happy? What do you want out of this?’ And just allowing for myself to feel whole.”
He also reflected on the time she brought Jann to meet his family, and looking back on it, Jonathan admitted that he should have been more upfront with his feelings and what he wanted, but it was too hard for him to do in that context, especially considering that everyone was watching.
“I think having my hometown and getting to introduce my family to Jenn was the eye-opening piece that I needed to help myself get there,” he said.
“It was just my fault that I couldn't get those feelings further,” he acknowledged. “[My family] had nothing but great things to say. And honestly, since it's aired, and obviously they know that I'm not with her, they've been bummed. They're like, ‘We loved her. She was incredible. We could've seen you guys having an amazing life together.’”
What's Next For Jonathan?
Jonathan spoke at length about how he knew he needed to work on allowing himself to "feel his feelings" and be more daring in expressing himself, but he will need to get better at it fast, as his next reality TV venture is coming sooner than anyone expected.
During the Men Tell All special, he was asked to join the next season of Bachelor in Paradise, and he happily accepted.
