The Below Deck franchise has been a massive hit for Bravo in recent years (so much so that it has reportedly overtaken the Real Housewives franchise). Of its shows, Below Deck Mediterranean has developed a huge following with its season six episodes getting over one million views upon release.
As one could imagine, it takes a lot to keep Below Deck Mediterranean afloat (the show reportedly costs a whopping $10 million to produce). At the same time, since filming is done while the crew works (and parties) on a yacht, certain accidents seem inevitable. Over the years, fans have even come to believe that the series is simply one of the most dangerous of its kind. Just check out the recent injuries that the crew have suffered recently.
Lloyd Spencer Had To Be Rushed To The Hospital
Spencer may have spent years working on the maritime industry, but nothing could have really prepared him for life as a deckhand onboard the Lady Michelle. During a preview of season six, he was revealed to be suffering from chest pains. At one point, Spencer could even be seen vomiting. His situation got so bad that Captain Sandy Yawn even reprimanded bosun Malia White for not reporting his injury. “You should have come to me that he was hurt!” In the end, it was decided to get Spencer off the boat and rush him to the hospital. Yawn then revealed that his blood pressure was “really high” and that he was suffering from chest pains.
Fortunately, it looks like Spencer has since fully recovered. However, he still won’t say how he ended up becoming sick. In fact, during an interview with Distractify, Spencer only explained, “It was a situation that happened while I was on board, but when you watch it, you'll see it, but I'm absolutely fine now.” That said, he also admitted that he kept his own father in the dark about his injury onboard the yacht. And when he saw the preview, Spencer recalled, “It scared the living daylights out of him.”
Malia White Was In A Scooter Accident
As fans would know, the hard-working cast of Below Deck Mediterranean make the most out of her downtime. Sometimes, they even step off the boat and take in some sights. However, that doesn’t appear to be as safe as it sounds. Case in point is White who ends up in a horrendous scooter accident while just “10 minutes from my boat.”
“I’ve been riding scooters my whole life was familiar with the equipment, wasn’t drinking and was 10 minutes from my boat. Accidents happen when you least expect them,” the Below Deck Mediterranean star shared on Instagram. She also revealed that she ended up with several injuries, including a “fractured elbow, broken toes, severe road rash and a very sore body.” White also believes that her accident could’ve been worse. Fortunately, she had her helmet on. “Mine quite literally saved my life.”
David Pascoe Hit His Head
As far as the crew of the Lady Michelle go, it seems that Pascoe is the most accident-prone of them all. In fact, as he himself revealed on Instagram, “I’ve lost fingers, fractured my spine, I’m littered with scars from work, from play, from living.” At one point, he also suffered injury that left him with a nasty cut on his head. “This is the result of, what actually, was an amazing session on the hydrofoil,” the deckhand explained. “Unfortunately sharp edged carbon fibre is stronger than my head.” To make matters worse, Pascoe also revealed that when the incident happened, he had to wait for a boat that could take him to land for two whole hours. That said, he decided not to rush himself to the hospital because the pandemic had already swept much of the world when this happened. Luckily, Pascoe managed to get his head injury stitched up.
At the same time, fans also recently saw Pascoe take a tumble after getting out of the hot tub. Of the incident, his memory is a little faint. “I don't know what direction I was going, but it wasn't a good one,” Pascoe remarked in Below Deck Med After Show. “I'm pretty sure I only hit my leg. That's all I remember is just hitting my leg.” And while his tumble looked painful, he also explained that it was “nothing more than a bruise.” “It was sore. But yeah, nothing life-threatening by any stretch of the imagination.”
They May Also Put Themselves In Harm’s Way Intentionally
As it turns out, too much downtime onboard can result in some dangerous consequences for the crew aboard the Lady Michelle. As shown in the trailer, the cast once decided to play a spinning game on a Lazy Susan. According to Spencer, someone thought they should “test out how well-made the lazy Susan was.” Unfortunately, the ‘test’ got some of them thrown off the Lazy Susan. That said, Spencer assured fans that no one suffered any serious injuries. “Certainly a few people got spun a little too hard, but no lasting effects.”
Let’s hope the crew doesn’t get into any other accidents for the rest of the season!
