Despite reports that Jennifer Lopez is trying to improve her relationship with Jennifer Garner, it appears the singer is in conflict with Ben Affleck after he suggested a double date with his ex-wife.
According to a new report by Closer Magazine, Ben suggested they get together with Garner and her long-time boyfriend John Miller, though JLo apparently found the idea of a “double date” to be “bizarre.” The outlet adds that Lopez finds it “offensive” Ben keeps “pushing the idea.”
Ben And JLo’s Relationship Has Reportedly Been Struggling For Months
"Ben gets on great with John and has suggested couples' date nights to him and Jen, which they are both down with. But J-Lo turns it down flat every time," a source told Closer. Ben apparently believes the double date could help improve his co-parenting relationship with Garner, whom he shares three children with – Violet, 17, Seraphina, 14, and Samuel, 11.
“Ben doesn't understand why J-Lo won't give Jennifer and John a chance - he thinks it would be a lot of fun and great for the kids,” the insider continued, adding it “touches a raw nerve” for Ben, a he feel Lopez doesn’t understand why he wants to be friendly with Garner.
”[Ben] hates how they come across as anti-social when they turn down invites,” they continued, adding it’s “an issue that's not going away."
This new report comes after months of speculation that Lopez and Affleck are having trouble in their marriage, despite tying the knot only last year. Last month, a report claimed that Lopez had approached Affleck with the idea of a post-nuptial agreement to protect their assets in case their marriage ends in divorce.
"Both of them are realists who have been through divorce and don't want to be dealing with a nightmare money battle if they don't make it out of this rough patch," a source told Star Magazine.
The insider said that Jen still hopes to save their relationship, though, adding she’s “still giving this marriage everything she’s got.”
Lopez Believes Improving Tension With Garner Could Help Her Marriage
Earlier this year, it was reported that Lopez was focused on improving her relationship with Garner, as she believed it could help her marriage. "J Lo has come to accept that Jen will always be a huge influence on Ben,” a source told Radar Online in June. “Even if they're not married, he still values Jen's opinion and respects her."
"J Lo doesn't want to fight with Ben anymore," they continued, calling this a “huge shift in strategy” for JLo. "She wants peace and harmony and for Ben to love and cherish her again. And the best person to help her is Jen."
Previously, an insider said that Lopez and Garner are cordial, albeit distance form one another. "[They] are very cordial and they have a very healthy and functioning relationship,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. "[They are] learning and growing together as a new, extended family.”
