Alright ladies, get ready for the ultimate throwback! Since these days we're all looking for stuff to watch, we figured we would start by looking behind us instead of in front of us. Yes, there are tons of great movies coming out all the time, but occasionally it's the oldies that suit the mood best. So, today we have traveled back to the 2000s and pulled all of the very best girly movies from that time.
Even though the '90s were packed with truly amazing rom-coms, the 2000s also had their fair share of classics. We know for a fact all the '90s babies out there have a special place in their hearts reserved for Elle Woods, Cady Heron and Lizzie McGuire. So, who's ready to relive some of that early '00s girly magic?
20 Mean Girls – You GO Glenn Coco!
Back in 2004, we were gifted the ultimate girly classic that is Mean Girls. This movie was an instant hit due to its hilarious dialogue and as much as we may hate to admit it, its relatability. The fact of the matter is, girls in high school are MEAN. However, if we are lucky, we may also be able to meet a true friend or two during those formative years.
19 13 Going On 30 – 13 Never Looked Better
Indeed, 2004 was a very good year for girly movies. Not only did we meet Cady Heron and the plastics that year, but also Jenna Rink. 13 Going on 30 should NOT have been as amazing as it was, but thanks to Jennifer Garner's unreal portrayal of a 13-year-old in a 30-year-old's body, this movie will always be a staple.
18 A Cinderella Story – It Finally Rained
We've heard Cinderella's story told hundreds of times, in so many different ways. However, Hilary Duff's take will always stand out as one of the very best. This early '00s movie got everything right. It's got great music, awesome costumes and let's get real, it doesn't get anymore 2000s than Chad Michael Murray.
17 The Princess Diaries – We Love Mia Thermopolis
There's been a lot of talk surrounding a Princess Diaries 3 and while we only know so much at this point, things do look promising! However, before we get too hyped up on that possibility, let's go back and remember where it all started. Back in 2001, Mia Thermopolis tumbled into our lives and we've pretty much been in love with Anne Hathaway ever since.
16 Bring It On – Don't Even Talk To Us About The Sequels
We get that the original Bring It On was so amazing that filmmakers wanted to continue its success, but honestly, none of the follow-up films have ever come close what Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union delivered in 2000. We can all but guarantee every '90s girl out there still remembers every cheer word for word.
15 Miss Congeniality – A Must-Watch Every April 25th
Sandra Bullock is an amazing actress. At this point in time, she's proven she can take on any number of roles and absolutely slay. However, we don't think anyone has ever slayed harder than when Bullock appeared in that blue dress in the 2000 hit film Miss Congeniality. This girly flick should be watched every April 25th, as that's truly the perfect date.
14 How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days – Nobody Wears Gold Better Than Kate Hudson
There are a lot of things to love about How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but seeing Kate Hudson in that iconic gold dress tops them all. This may be an overly cheesy rom-com, but it absolutely does deliver in both romance and comedy, so really, what more are we looking for?
13 Aquamarine – Who Doesn't Love Mermaids?
While nobody here is saying Aquamarine is a top-quality film, we are saying that it is just so cute and nostalgic that it deserves a place on this list. How could anyone even talk about the 2000s without mentioning JoJo, anyway? When a mermaid washes up in their pool, two besties have the summer of their lives. Classic!
12 Sleepover – Baby Evan Peters!
Sleepover is one of those movies that some girls may have missed all together. Not being as popular as say Mean Girls, it would make sense if this film flew under some people's radar. However, those who have seen it, know why it's here. Not only does it feature the best sleepover of all time, but also an adorable, young Evan Peters!
11 Legally Blonde – Elle Woods Is An Icon
Reese Witherspoon has certainly come a long way since she first started appearing in Hollywood films. While she has her fair share of '90s hits as well, we all know that her claim to fame has and always will be Legally Blonde. Elle Woods was the kind of character we could look up to. Sure, her journey to law school wasn't the most realistic, but she really was an excellent role model all the same.
