2 Broke Girls Was Almost Immediately Canceled Due To Controversy

2 Broke Girls enjoyed a successful six-season run. However, the show faced controversy and almost ended early after the topic of racism was brought up to describe some of the moments on the show. Alongside TV Line, creator Michael Patrick King responded to the criticisms.

“It’s interesting… because if you talk about stereotypes, every character when it’s born is a stereotype,” King countered. “This show started with two stereotypes — a blonde, and a brunette — and that implies certain stigmas as well, which we’ve try to diffuse and grow [away from].”

"The big story about race on our show is that so many are represented, that the cast is not only incredibly multi-ethnic, it’s also incredibly not ageist.”

Beth Behrs also briefly discussed the controversy, stating that her goal stayed the same, and that was to make fans laugh.

"Even in the midst of all of that last year, Kat and I were committed to making people laugh. We love going to work every day and doing our job, because we believe in the show and the characters so much. It’s nice to know that the first-season pressure is over. Last year, premiering and not knowing if we would be on the air next week…. It’s nice not to have that pressure," Behrs said with TV Line over a decade ago in 2012.

Behrs was said to see the show go after six seasons. As for Dennings, she was ready to move on.

Kat Dennings Was Ready To Move On From 2 Broke Girls Despite Her Success On The Show

During an interview with the LA Times, Dennings credited 2 Broke Girls for making her famous, but was ready to move to her next act. It came to the point that Kat was tired of wearing her uniform, and wanted to change things up with different opportunities.

“By the end, I just wanted to burn that waitress uniform,” she says. “Not that there’s anything wrong with the show. I’m very proud of it. But going forward, I needed to do something that was the polar opposite. I would have played a reanimated corpse if I could.”

Dennings certainly held true to that promise with her work in WandaVision and Thor: The Dark World. She also diversified her work with some voice over gigs as well along the way since the show came to an end.
