Following the verdict, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are building different paths. Depp is on TikTok, resurfacing his image with already 3 million followers. While Heard has $10 million to pay her ex and in addition, she's focused on lying low and staying at her home in the desert. Reactions continue from several outlets around the world, including Real Time with Bill Maher. The host's take wasn't as controversial as one of his guests. Let's find out what went down.
Johnny Depp Has Already Moved On From The Trial, Joining TikTok
By the looks of it, Johnny Depp is ready to move on with his life. The Pirates actor missed the final verdict, touring overseas with Jeff Beck. In addition, it seems like he's taking part in a new social media venture, we're talking about TikTok. In just a short amount of time, the actor was able to amass 3.5 million followers - that number will continue to skyrocket as more fans learn about his use of the platform.
As for Amber Heard, things are very different for the Aquaman star. Not only was she pulled from the sequel but following the verdict, Heard took to Instagram, expressing her disappointment relating to the court outcome.
"The disappointment I feel today is beyond words," Heard wrote in her statement. "I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway of my ex husband."
"It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke up could be publicly shamed and humiliated," she said. "It sets back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously."
"I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the U.K.."
More controversy continues to be released stemming from the court case, with some claiming that jurors fell asleep while listening to evidence... Clearly, the story doesn't appear to be over and it is also expected that Heard will appeal the decision.
Bill Maher Had Some Fun With His Take On The Trial
Platforms around the world discussed the Heard and Depp trial, that includes the likes of Howard Stern and Bill Maher. On Real Time, Maher joked around when discussing the amount of attention the case got from viewers around the world.
"America right now is the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial. American is obsessed about this for two reasons, one is because it absolutely mirrors this country, two parties that absolutely hate each other."
Maher continued, "Amber will always be s******* the bed Amber."
Adam Carolla and Donna Brazile also had their take on the trial, Adam specifically made light of the situation, finding the fans waiting outside for Depp to absolutely hilarious. The comedian questioned who these people were, and how they were able to be there at such a random time of the day.
It was a light-hearted take on Real Time, however, we can't say the same for a certain author who appeared on the show.
Bill Maher's Guest Author Michael Shellenberger May Have Taken Things Too Far
Michael Shellenberger used a wild comparison that many deemed as inappropriate during his appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher. According to the author, the case was comparable to the slavery problem around the world.
"There are 40 million slaves in the world today. That’s more than there were in the 19th century. If people in America could get off this thing of endlessly beating up on their own, on their own, past and look at the world today, you could do something about actual problems."
Michael clarified his stance saying, "We’re not responsible for the behaviors of white people 200 years ago. It’s individual responsibility. So Amber Heard is responsible for her behaviors. Johnny Depp is responsible for his behaviors."
"Equal justice under the law is a better principle than believe all women. We actually have a system set up to evaluate the claims made, and we don’t discriminate or make judgments based on your group identity. We hold individual responsibility above all else."
It truly was quite the statement that got people talking for the wrong reasons...
