Boy George always has the fans talking. That was the case during his Real Housewives appearance, and the same held true for George and his past. He was involved in some scandals as well, and one of them resulted in a prison sentence.
As expected, the singer-songwriter made the headlines during his stint as a judge on The Voice. However, it seems like the headlines weren't always positive and encouraging. That was especially true for his walk out moment following an audition. Daniel Shaw had a great blind audition, and it caused all four judges to turn their chairs.
However, it seems like George wasn't happy with a certain response given by Shaw after the performance. He subsequently walked off the stage. Fans weren't pleased with Boy George's reaction, and the artist himself showed regret for what had taken place. Let's take a look back at how it all went down.
Boy George Acknowledged That His Walk Out On The Voice Was A Complete Misunderstanding
Daniel Shaw thrived during his blind audition on The Voice. All four judges turned their chairs around, and were excited about the prospect of working with the singer. However, things took a turn after one simple question. Boy George asked the singer if he played guitar. It seems like George wasn't impressed with Shaw's response. He said, “I can play guitar, but no-one really cares if I play guitar."
The comment did not sit well with Boy George, who changed his tone and told Shaw to pick another team. “No-one cares? I do. I think after that comment, go with Delta. ‘No-one cares if I play guitar’? It’s a weird thing to say.”
Things spiraled even further after the moment, as Boy George got off his chair and left the stage altogether, calling the moment, "rude."
It was not a good look for the judge, and he did admit himself that ordeal was a complete misunderstanding.
“I just misheard what was said, and I just went, you know when you go in the moment? I am kind of fine now and I’m a bit embarrassed. I’m cool, I’m not annoyed, I was just annoyed in the moment. I’ve got to go and find somewhere not to be embarrassed. I’ll have to be tied to my seat,” he said.
“I had string of nos, and I had a bit of a diva moment. Sometimes you just care too much, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”
Caring too much proved to be harsh, at least that's what a lot of fans felt about the ordeal...
Boy George's Walk Out On The Voice Got Millions Of Views, But Fans Weren't Impressed With His Actions
The moment has over three million views on YouTube. As expected, Boy George's assessment was not taken well by fans. In the comment section of the video, several fans of The Voice reacted by stating other ways George could've been helpful in the situation with the young artist.
One user writes, "Daniel Shaw's voice is wonderful! He sings with emotions. If Boy George says he cares then he should ask the staff to provide a guitar and let Daniel sing a song with it. In that way, it would give Daniel a boost a confidence that whatever musical instrument he used, he can do sing lovely songs."
Other fans were thanking George for his blow up, as it gave Daniel the opportunity to sing another song. "Thank you George for walking out and giving Daniel the opportunity to shine even more with his 2nd song. Such a blessing."
For the most part, comments continued on stating that George took his words the wrong way, and this it was a complete overreaction on his part. As for Shaw himself, well he had the opposite, an underaction to what had taken place.
The Voice Contestant Daniel Shaw Took A Passive Approach To The Boy George Walk Out - While George Did Not Return For The Following Season
Daniel Shaw barely commented on the matter. The singer didn't venture any type of opinion in interviews, and simply stated that he saw Boy George walk out of the show. As for Boy George, well it seems like he didn't return for the next season of The Voice, and he took exception as to why.
It was deemed that he was dumped by the show, however, the artist had his own interpretation of that had taken place and why his abrupt exit happened.
"I've never been 'dumped' by a network. My nipples are hard," he said.
George would also say that the show couldn't afford his services, "They can't afford me darling!" Daily Telegraph did reveal that George and Kelly alone were commanding huge salaries on the show worth $5 million, and perhaps the cut took place due to cost-cutting. Nonetheless, his short-lived journey on the show came with controversy and moments the artist likely wants to forget about.
