Brad Pitt is among the true movie stars in Hollywood, and that has been the case for three decades now. During the early '90s, he was rising to the top, however, there was one film that almost completely broke the actor - so much so that he thought about walking off the set. Once he found out that a potential $40 million penalty would be put in place, the actor thought twice about it.

We'll take a look at what caused Brad Pitt's misery on-set, along with taking a closer look at a particular relationship he had with another A-lister. It turns out that the two didn't really hit it off, and were completely different in terms of their personalties. Following the 1994 film, they never worked together again, although they did come close to reuniting in 2019.

Interview with the Vampire back in 1994 was yet another film that helped Brad Pitt rise the ranks in Hollywood. However, despite the good from the film, the actor struggled behind the scenes. Pitt enjoyed shooting in New Orleans, however when the film shifted to London, it was a dark experience for the actor.

"But then we got to London, and London was dark. London was dead of winter. We're shooting in Pinewood (Studios), which is an old institution -- all the James Bond films. There's no windows in there. It hasn't been refabbed in decades. You leave for work in the dark -- you go into this cauldron, this mausoleum -- and then you come out and it's dark."

Pitt grew depressed from the situation and would ask how expensive it would be to back out of the film. Once he found out the sum of $40 million, he knew he had no choice but to toughen it out.

"I'm telling you, one day it broke me. It was like, 'Life's too short for this quality of life.' I called David Geffen, who was a good friend. He was a producer, and he'd just come to visit. I said, 'David, I can't do this anymore. I can't do it. What will it cost me to get out?' And he goes, very calmly, 'Forty million dollars.' And I go, 'OK, thank you.' It actually took the anxiety off of me. I was like, 'I've got to man up and ride this through, and that's what I'm going to do.'"

Not only did the film location depress the actor, but he also had a tough time alongside a certain A-lister.

Speaking about his experience with Tom Cruise, Pitt got very honest making mention that the two are completely different personalities.

"You gotta understand, Tom and I are… we walk in different directions,” he explains. “He’s North Pole. I’m South. He’s coming at you with a handshake” Pitt leans forward – Pitt leans forward mimicking Cruise’s hyper-aggressive hello – “where I may bump into you, I may not, you know," Pitt revealed.

Although there wasn't any bad blood between the two, Pitt did reveal that things seemed to be competitive between the two which makes sense given their status at the time, trying to become the new faces of Hollywood.

"I always thought there was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation,” says Pitt. “It wasn’t nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there and it bugged me a bit. But I’ll tell you, he catches a lot of shit because he’s on top, but he’s a good actor and he advances in the film. He did it. I mean, you have to respect that.”

Ford V Ferrari could have had a different look and one that would've shaken things up in a major way. According to Joseph Kosinski, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were considered to take the place of Christian Bale and Matt Damon. The two would even take part in a table read.

Kosinski revealed, "And that story was one of those great stories of an incredible friendship and an incredible rivalry and an incredibly dangerous race. So we, I wouldn't say we got close to production, but I got to the point where I had Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt at a table reading the script together, which was pretty amazing. But we couldn't get the budget to the number it had to be at."

It seems like it didn't go down given that the film went over-budget. It would have been something to see the two reunite after all those years, especially in such roles.
