Summary
- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter, Shiloh, legally filed to drop her dad's last name on her 18th birthday.
- Brad Pitt was reportedly devastated by Shiloh's decision, but fans criticized his reaction.
- Shiloh hired her own lawyer to change her last name and become Shiloh Jolie, with reports suggesting it was connected to abuse allegations.
Brad Pitt's relationship with his children, or at the very least, with his daughters, seems to be more broken than anyone imagined. Both Vivienne and Zahara are thought to have changed their names socially, going by Jolie instead of Jolie-Pitt. But 18-year-old Shiloh took it one step further, and legally filed to drop her father's last name on the day she became a legal adult.
While Angelina Jolie had nothing to do with her daughter's decision, she seems to have supported it. Brad Pitt, on the other hand, was devastated. His reaction didn't sit well with fans, however, as they believe his words reveal a clear preference for his biological children.
Fans Upset At Reports Of Brad Pitt's Reaction To Shiloh Changing Her Name
After the news of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter Shiloh broke, fans have been wondering what the parents thought of it. Reports of Brad Pitt's reaction came on June 3rd, when a source told PEOPLE that the actor knew what his daughter was planning and was devastated.
"He's aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter," the insider shared. "The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad."
It's not all sadness for the actor, though, as the source added that "He’s still happy with Ines [de Ramon, his new girlfriend]," but nonetheless, the broken relationship with his children still "pains" him.
Fans didn't take this report kindly, though. Particularly the bit about how "he always wanted a daughter." When Shiloh was born, Brad and Angelina already had a daughter, Zahara, and fans were quick to point it out, speculating that the actor had a clear preference for his biological kids over his adoptive children.
"mind you, he already had a daughter before she was born," a user wrote on X, "shouldn't his PR team at least pretend he cares about his adopted kids as well??"
Shiloh Hired Her Own Lawyer To Change Her Last Name When She Turned 18
While it seems Angelina Jolie was aware of her daughter's desire to change her last name, she had nothing to do with the procedure. Probably why Shiloh had to wait until she turned 18 to go through with it.
She filed to drop her father's last name and become Shiloh Jolie on the day of her 18th birthday, May 27, and according to what a source close to the family told Entertainment Tonight, "Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angie doesn't know and can't speak for it."
Us Weekly also reported that Shiloh's decision is "connected to the abuse history," which Angelina Jolie alleged many times in the divorce proceedings. "That's part of it," a source admitted.
Shiloh is the first of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children to do it legally, but two of their daughters already seem to have dropped the Pitt surname socially. 15-year-old Vivienne, who is working with her mother producing the Broadway show The Outsiders chose to be credited in the Playbill as Vivienne Jolie, rather than Jolie-Pitt.
Similarly, 19-year-old Zahara was seen introducing herself as Zahara Marley Jolie in a video of her sorority last year. So, it seems the relationship between Brad Pitt and his children is more damaged than anyone imagined.
