At that time, news broke that Johnny had cheated on the realtor.

In 2023, Johnny's tragic NFL story was documented in Netflix's Untold: Johnny Football. The athlete had a promising start. He was the first freshman to receive the Heisman trophy. But soon he was struggling with sobriety and several scandals that made him "football's Charlie Sheen," according to The Guardian.

In 2014, his reps discovered he'd gone on a bender after months of repairing his image. He was then dropped by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, causing him to spiral again.

Johnny went on a "$5 million bender" and tried to shoot himself with a gun that malfunctioned.

Looking back at his self-destructive bender, the former NFL quarterback said: "Still to this day, I don't know what happened. But the gun just clicked on me." Johnny associated his past behavior with his bipolar disorder, which wasn't diagnosed until later in his life. Luckily, he had Bre during that lowest point in his life.

Johnny and Bre got engaged the same year he was fired from the Cleveland Browns. When they got married in 2018, an insider said of the couple: "He's trying to get his life settled down. During his cameo on Selling Sunset season 8, Johnny acknowledged his infidelities to Bre when she was showing him a potential house to buy for himself. He admitted to being "a lost, depressed kid running around the Hollywood Hills getting drunk every night and living in a nightclub".

He added that he spent "a lot of time behind [Bre's] back," to which the reality star quipped, "Oh you spent a lot of time with someone else on their back, but yes it's fine. Still love ya."

Johnny then expressed his remorse, saying: "I still feel bad to this day treating you like that. Getting divorced and after we broke up was probably one of the hardest points in my life and I cried and I begged and I pleaded."

Bre also commended Johnny for coming clean about their marriage issues. But she also addressed the fact that he might never grow up... "I'm happy to hear that J can recognize the hell that he put me through," she said during a confessional interview

"And that tells me at least the effort I put in was recognized and it's not all completely in vain," she continued. "Johnny is like Peter Pan, he just never wants to grow up so we're going to let him stay in his little fairytale land. I got money to make."
