What Happened To Brendan Fraser?
Brendan Fraser was probably best known for being in fun and action-packed movies, such as George of the Jungle, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Inkheart, and The Mummy, to name a few. Then Fraser seemed to "vanish" from Hollywood, the reason for which didn't become apparent until 2018, when Fraser bravely did an interview with GQ and told his story.
Brendan told GQ about what happened to him in 2003 during a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel, held by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. As he was leaving the hotel, Fraser was stopped by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA. Fraser told GQ that in this moment he was overcome with panic and fear, as Berk sexually assaulted him.
Brendan Fraser's Emotional 'Comeback'
Since Brendan spoke about what he went through and how it made him feel, fans have been rooting for the tremendously brave and kind actor to resurface and finally make his comeback. Fans were thrilled to see him in an interview with fan Lindley Key, where Brendan shared with Key how nervous he was ahead of working with Martin Scorcese.
Brendan will be back for 2022 - he's been cast as the villain in the upcoming Batgirl movie, where he will be playing Firefly in the highly anticipated movie.
Brendan was interviewed by Lindley Key for her TikTok 'littlelottiecosplay'. For the interview, she dressed as Evie from The Mummy.
After Brendan told her how anxious he was, she said, "Just know that the internet is so behind you, the internet is so supportive, there are so many people out there who love you and are rooting for you and we can't wait to see what you do next."
For a moment, Brendan hid behind his hat, then raised his glass of water and clearly looked both taken aback and touched by Lindley's heartfelt words.
"Shucks, m'am!" he said, looking as if he was trying to hold a lot of emotion back.
The interview went viral, and it made fans do something most thought was impossible: they love Brendan Fraser even more.
"He deserves all the good things. I hope his career has a resurgence," one fan commented on Reddit, in a subreddit called MadeMeSmile. "Also, love that she’s dressed up as Evie from The Mummy to interview him.
"If you want to see a resurgence in his career I recommend checking out his latest content in doom patrol," another Redditor advised, "[it's] actually really good."
"To know that fans are supporting him and love his work, was enough for his heart to be moved and you could see that anxiety disappear instantly," said another fan. "It was so wholesome and he should be told those things more, he deserves it."
"I really wish he could see all these recent threads," another fan said, noticing how positive and full of love all the threads connected to Fraser are.
It's clear that Brendan Fraser needed this validation, as he has had to deal with the pain of what happened to him in 2003, and, as he told GQ, of being blacklisted by Hollywood.
Brendan told GQ that what happened to him “made me retreat. It made me feel reclusive. [...] I don't know if this curried disfavor with the group, with the HFPA. But the silence was deafening.”
Brendan Fraser first started to emerge from the shadows back in 2018, when he spoke his truth and told GQ exactly what he'd been through: “Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely.”
Brendan has the best fans, who feel an overwhelming need to protect him. Fans will forever be inspired by and in awe of his courage, and cannot wait to see more of him. The internet is delighted to have Brendan officially back!
