Getting ready for ‘Captain Marvel’ was quite the task for Brie Larson. After all, it takes a lot of work and preparation to be part of the MCU, Larson admitted with Forbes, she wanted to be prepared for the role, “I knew I was doing an action movie and I was gonna have to do stunts, and I didn’t know what that [would be], and I wanted to be ready for it,” She explained to me. “I wanted to be as prepared as possible, so I wasn’t fighting being fatigued or [have my] body hurting, and that I was as resilient as I could possibly be… [In doing this], I started to fall in love with [training]. I started to fall in love with the way my body was changing and transforming, and how capable [I was]. It was the first time where I felt like I was making my body work for me.”
As she quickly learned, the training wasn’t easy. In fact, she was often reduced to tears, “I sobbed in the gym many times,” she says, laughing. “My trainer would be like, 'Oh, she’s crying again.' It’s very emotional when you’re kind of stirring up something very vulnerable and raw inside of you, and you’re also learning that it’s just for you; there was nothing for me to prove. I wasn’t proving it to other people at the gym. I certainly wasn’t proving it to my trainer, because he was never going to be fully impressed; it’s his job to not be impressed. I [was there at the gym] for myself.”
Not only did she look the part but in terms of her performance, she was at her prime, hitting a 225 deadlift, along with pulling a darn Jeep! During the quarantine, Brie isn’t missing any workouts. Given the content on her YouTube channel, she’s ready for Captain Marvel 2.
Stretch-Time
Yes, looking the part is important but being functionally strong is just as key. Larson is practicing this aspect, taking her stretching very seriously, “Stop scrolling and take 60 seconds to stretch with me? New stretch routine on YouTube.”
Not only is she looking better than ever before, but she’s also at her prime in terms of functional strength!
