Summary

  • Britney Spears shares traumatic childhood experiences and claims that her family "threw her away," finding her childhood possessions missing during a recent visit home.
  • Britney's mom, Lynne Spears, denies getting rid of her daughter's dolls and journals, offering to send them to her and expressing love.
  • The Louisiana house where Britney grew up is for sale for $1.2 million, featuring her preserved room with personal touches and a separate dance studio.

The house where Britney Spears grew up is for sale, but what really happened to her childhood possessions, from dolls to journals is still in question.

The pop star recently dropped a memoir, in which she unloaded the details of her traumatic experiences, including being a child star, and some of the less-pleasant aspects of her relationship with her parents, such as their fighting and her father's drinking.

Britney's side of the story is the tale of a little girl who liked to hide in cabinets and to sing, and who grew up to feel "thrown away" by her family, and she says that when she went home for a visit during the 2020 COVID-19 crisis, seeing many of her childhood possessions, including dolls and notebooks, missing just echoed that feeling.

Now, Britney's mom is responding with a denial, framed as a message to Britney but sent via a public social media post, though the pair were reportedly on direct speaking terms earlier this year.

Lynne Spears, Britney's mother, turned to social media to defend herself, issuing both a denial and an offer. She shared photos of dolls and of a thick binder, along with a message to her daughter, according to Page Six.

"I’m not sure who told you I got rid of your dolls and journals but I would never do that," Lynne said, adding that to do so would be "cruel" because the items are meaningful to Britney. She didn't explain why the items appeared to be missing when her daughter visited.

Instead, she offered, "I am happy to send them to you if you'd like me to! Please let me know," and added, "and know how much I love you."

In the photos, most of the dolls are in a glass case, and it's not entirely clear whether these are the items whose loss Britney was mourning.

Lynne also didn't address any of the other allegations in the book, including providing her daughter with alcohol when she was in the 8th grade, or dodging her pleas for help and comfort when she was in a mental health facility during her conservatorship.

Meanwhile, the home where Lynne raised Britney, in Louisiana, is on offer for $1.2 million -- more than 4 times what Jamie Spears sold it for in 2021. It's not just rising property values that make the current owner confident in such an increase in price, either.

Jamie Spears had lived there since his divorce from Lynne in 2002, and according to Realtor, Britney's room is the big draw, because he kept some of her personal touches intact.

There's a mirror that still sports her stickers and other memorabilia, including a VIP pass from ‘N Sync's World Tour ’98, the year before she and Justin Timberlake would confirm they were dating. (She spills on him in the memoir too, by the way.) The room even still sports her personal graffiti -- "Christina sucks Brit rules" written in marker on a closet door, and her personal dance studio, a separate building erected behind the house, is also part of the deal. For now, the home remains up for sale.
