It is finally here: NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine just announced that its 8th season will be the last. The official Twitter handle of the show took to the microblogging site on Thursday to share this news with fans.
The showrunners expressed their profound thanks to the fans who saved them from cancellation, and allowed them the opportunity to complete the originally envisioned run of 153 episodes.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a police procedural comedy series, that first premiered on Fox in 2013. The show was created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, (also known for his work on The Office, and for creating shows Parks and Recreation and The Good Place). It stars Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta, a talented but immature NYPD cop who often clashes with his strict and stern commanding officer, Captain Raymond Holt portrayed by Andre Braugher.
The rest of the cast comprises Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as Amy Santiago, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti, Dirk Blocker as Michael Hitchcock, and Joel McKinnon Miller as Norm Scully.
The series was canceled by Fox in 2018, after its 5th season, but a rally of support from fans led NBC to picking it up for its 6th season, where it currently airs.
Cast members and writers took to Twitter as well, to share their reactions. Fumero wrote:
