Not that long ago, the vast majority of people had never even heard of what a podcast is. More recently, however, they have become increasingly popular in large part because there are lots of celebrities hosting podcasts these days. For example, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have addressed several The Office fan theories now that they host the Office Ladies podcast. Of course, Joe Rogan’s controversial podcast also seems to wind up in the news every other week.
On top of all the examples of established celebrities launching podcasts, the medium has made some regular people famous. For example, as a result of launching the popular podcast “Call Her Daddy”, Alexandra “Alex” Cooper and Sofia Franklyn have accumulated a huge fan following. While that is wonderful, Alex and Sofia likely aren’t thrilled that the “Call Her Daddy” podcast seems to be a magnet for drama based on all the controversies that surround it.
Miley Cyrus and Jamie Lynn Spears’ Controversial “Call Her Daddy” Appearances
Thanks to the fact that “Call Her Daddy” has become an extremely popular podcast, several celebrities have made appearances on the show. Before any future stars appear on the podcast, they’d be well advised to make sure they are prepared for the possible consequences that appearing on the often very revealing podcast may cause for them. For example, when Miley Cyrus and Jamie Lynn Spears both appeared in separate “Call Her Daddy” episodes, controversy erupted.
At the time that Miley Cyrus was interviewed for an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, she had recently gotten divorced from Liam Hemsworth. With the scars from that process new, some people may have steered clear from talking about the divorce but Miley went the other way. Never afraid to be extremely forthright, Cyrus said many headline-grabbing things like admitting she lost her virginity to Liam and that she fell in love with a woman in the past. Cyrus also stated that she wanted her next partner to be sober and that she felt villainized for moving on from Liam. At the end of the day, it is pretty sad that Cyrus’ remarks resulted in controversy since she didn’t say anything worthy of that but the fact remains that her statements caused an uproar.
After the #FreeBritney movement came to mainstream prominence and Britney Spears escaped her conservatorship, a lot of anger was directed at the pop star’s family members. For example, Britney and her sister Jamie Lynn Spears sadly began feuding in public. When Jamie Lynn Spears appeared on “Call Her Daddy” in early-2022, the podcast got wrapped up in the controversy. The reason for that is simple, “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper asked Jamie Lynn to reveal personal texts Britney sent her and she proceeded to do so. While fans blame Jamie Lynn for revealing the texts, they also were angered at Alex for requesting the betrayal and called for “Call Her Daddy” to be canceled.
“Call Her Daddy’s” Sofia And Alex Feud Over The Podcast
In the early days of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, the show became controversial due to the things the show’s hosts and best friends at the time both said. For example, Sofia and Alex called for women to gaslight their partners if they are caught cheating and use their intimate encounters as a way to manipulate men. Over time, however, instead of Alex and Sofia weathering backlashes together, the pair’s relationship with each other became the most controversial thing about “Call Her Daddy”.
When Alexandra Cooper and Sofia Franklyn created the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2018, there was no way for them to know how successful it would become. As a result, when Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy offered the pair a three-year contract that guaranteed them $75,000 per year and bonuses, they jumped at the opportunity. However, once “Call Her Daddy” became a massive success and it became clear the show’s hosts could make a lot more money elsewhere, they wanted out of their contract with Barstool Sports. As a result, a series of controversial things took place.
Initially, it seemed like Sofia and Alex were unified in their battle to free themselves and the “Call Her Daddy” podcast from Barstool Sports. After all, Sofia and Alex decided to completely stop recording episodes of their podcast in an attempt to force Barstool Sports to let them free. Over time, however, it became clear that wasn’t the case.
As Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy revealed, he offered Alex and Sofia a new deal with a substantial rise to make the pair happy and continue their business relationship. Evidently, Alex wanted to take Portnoy up on his offer while Sofia didn’t which caused a complete fracture in the relationship. While many fans blamed Sofia’s boyfriend because they believed he convinced her to not take the deal, at the end of the day, that doesn’t really matter. The important thing is that Sofia felt betrayed by Alex, the pair’s friendship ended, and they have never recorded a podcast together since then.
Of course, it should go without saying that Alexandra Cooper and Sofia Franklyn both have their own version of the events that led up to the podcast duo going their separate ways. No matter which one of them is closer to the truth, the important thing is that Sofia quit “Call Her Daddy” and began hosting her own podcast called “Sofia with an F”. Sofia must regret that decision now as Alex later left Barstool Sports and signed a new deal with Spotify worth $60 million.
