After Cara's weird behavior around Megan and Doja at the 2022 BBMAs, fans were quick to dig around and found a clip of the model acting the same way onstage at one of Azealia's concerts. Critics speculated that the Paper Towns star has an obsession with black women.
Azealia came to her defense but went a little too hard on Megan. "Cara doesn't have an obsession with black women," wrote the Anna Wintour singer. What Cara Delevingne Has Said About Her Odd Behavior Around Megan Thee Stallion
In July 2022, Cara finally explained the odd BBMAs incident to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. "I really wanted to see her play and she asked me to come along with her," she said of attending the awards show.
"I didn't know I was going to go and sit or do anything, I thought I was just going to come and watch her play. I walked in and I had a seat in the front row, and I'm like, 'I'm not meant to be here.'" Speaking about the viral red carpet moment, Cara said that she was just "being a hype woman" to Megan.
"I was helping her and I was doing it, and I was going like, 'Yeah girl!' I was hyping her up, being a hype woman," said the Dior ambassador.
"She had a speech she was going to do because she was winning an award, so I was helping her run her lines. That's what I do, I was just really excited." She also acknowledged how weird it might have looked like to most people. "I was living my best life, but people found it a bit odd," she continued. "People find me a bit odd, but that's me. No shame."
