The success of the dating show Love Is Blind eventually led to its equally romantic spinoff, Love Is Blind: Brazil. The show basically takes after the format of the original show where the contestants live together but the men and women don’t see each other until a proposal is made. Throughout its first season, some couples did click (one couple is even expecting their first child together) while others parted ways eventually.RELATED: Here's How Lauren From Netflix's 'Love Is Blind' Amassed Her $1.5 Million Net WorthJust like the original show, however, it seems that the Brazil spinoff is being criticized for having too much booze around. In fact, from the time that the contestants step into this dating experiment, the drinks just keep flowing. This has led some to believe that Love Is Blind showrunners themselves are encouraging contestants to keep drinking.

In ‘Love Is Blind,’ Contestants Can Drink As Much As They Want

Just like other popular dating shows, drinks are readily available onset in the Love Is Blind universe. The idea is to make contestants feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible so that they can think less about distractions and focus on falling in love.

In fact, as far as food and drinks go, everything is provided by the show. “We could request stuff. If you wanted a special snack they'd go run and get it,” Kenny Barnes, another former Love Is Blind contestant, even revealed.

“I was eating more of a ketogenic diet. I just needed some meat and greens. But everyone else was being very, very particular,” Barnes’ fellow former contestant, Kelly Chase added. “Like, ‘I need the chocolate chip pop charts with chocolate frosting.’”

As it turns out, contestants could order anything they wanted when it came to booze. Sometimes, they don’t even have to ask. The showrunners just figure out their drink of choice.

“Lauren [Speed] and I had bonded over our love of Hennessy at one point,” Cameron Hilton recalled. “We went into the pod one day and then there was Hennessy in there for both of us. [The producers] listened.”

Meanwhile, Barnes confessed, “Bailey's and coffee was my go-to. I didn't really drink any hard liquor — no beer. I couldn't eat cause I was honestly just messed up emotionally.”

And while Love Is Blind: Brazil contestants never discussed the drinks they had while on the show, fans did make some keen observations while binge-watching the show. For instance, one Redditor claimed that Nanda Terra looked like she “had so much fun drinking” while hanging out with Thiago Rocha (things didn’t work out between them in the end though).

Either way, both men and women were also seen drinking continuously every time they hang out at the lounge. Some were seen bringing drinks in during their time at the pod.

Are ‘Love Is Blind: Brazil’ Showrunners Pushing Contestants To Drink?

It is unlikely that showrunners themselves are pushing contestants to drink more. After all, everyone participating in the experiment is free to drink and eat whatever they want. That said, it looks like the showrunners have made sure that lounges near the pods are fully stocked with drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic.

Because of this, contestants do have a tendency to drink a lot. And although contestants on Love Is Blind: Brazil seem to be able to hold their liquor, Love Is Blind contestant Jessica Batten got criticized for drinking too much on the show and even giving her dog wine at one point.

Later on, Batten admitted that she drank a lot because she felt she needed to in order to get through the show. “That is something that I tend to do if I’m nervous, I drink a little bit more,” she confessed.

“I think it was just in that moment I was so uncomfortable and unfortunately I was using alcohol a little bit to defer that. And hindsight is 20/20. If I could have done anything differently for sure that would be one of the things.”

Batten suggested that booze is rather a necessity when it comes to dating shows like Love Is Blind and its spinoffs.

“I think there’s a reason that there’s sometimes alcohol around during these reality shows,” she explained. “Sometimes you loosen up and these moments can kind of come out. I really wish that I would have been better about the drinking for me.”

The ‘Love Is Blind’ Franchise Has Already Inspired A Drinking Game

As it turns out, longtime fans of the Love Is Blind universe have already come up with creative ways to drink along with the show. For instance, some recommend taking a sip when anyone says the name of the show or uses the words pods, marry, or marriage.

In addition, viewers and their watch party can also drink if anyone discusses their age. In addition, the drinking game can be applied to reunion specials. And naturally, fans can drink when someone on the show drinks. Sounds like fun, right?

At the moment, it is unclear if Love Is Blind: Brazil will return for a second season. That said, Love Is Blind has already been renewed for two more seasons.
