Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman is fiercely fighting his mother over the conservatorship she's trying to impose on him. He feels that not only he doesn't need it but that if he did he wouldn't choose his mother as his guardian.

"A conservatorship of my estate is not the least restrictive alternative needed to establish that protection" should he needed, Elijah Blue said, adding that his wife would have priority if that was the case, calling Cher "unfit to serve."

"I understand that a conservatorship is appropriate for a person who is substantially unable to manage his own financial resources or resist fraud or undue influence," he went on, saying that he'd already "selected and retained preferred counsel for this matter." About his finances, he said "I am and have been capable of managing my own financial resources and resisting fraud and undue influence. I do not need a conservatorship."

"My mother's petition raises dual concerns that I suffer from some mental illness and that I live hand-to-mouth using my trust distributions to buy drugs and place myself in mortal danger. As I have mentioned in previous pleadings, I have struggled with addiction, but I am not mentally ill," he explained. "The absence of evidence of the concerns raised in the petition over the last four months is evidence that I have control over my faculties and that I am not mentally ill."

He also said that he's mentally strong enough to deal with any issues that might come up. "In the event that I am inclined to engage in self-destructive behaviors, I do not need my trust distributions to do so; the world is full of addicts and mentally ill persons who do not have a trust distribution from which to draw. The only person who can save me from my demons is me — and I'm doing just that."

When Cher filed for conservatorship of her son, it strained their relationship significantly. She truly believes she's doing this for his own good, but Elijah Blue clearly doesn't see it that way.

Her filing said that a conservator is "urgently needed... to protect Elijah’s property from loss or injury" because he is "unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues." She also stated that she doesn't trust his wife because "their tumultuous relationship has been marked by a cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises."

Cher continues to try to put her son in a conservatorship, while her daughter-in-law is pushing back.

The filing continues, "Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk."

Despite the way this fight is harming their relationship, Cher reiterates that she "loves Elijah immensely and has always acted with his best interests in mind."
