During the 10th season of Chicago Med, the long-lasting TV show blew fans away in many ways. While the storyline with Dr. Ripley was a mistake and one potential storyline that would have been great didn't happen, the season did a great job introducing new characters and a major character was hugely improved. Not only that, Chicago Med's 10th season featured the best episode ever, and it brought back some characters from the show's past too.

Even though Chicago Med's 10th season was a delight, fans were emotional after how the early episodes treated Dr. Charles. What those same fans couldn't have knoqn while watching those early episodes was how shocked they would be by the 10th season's finale.

What Was Chicago Med's Season 10's Finale Cliffhanger?

Throughout the history of Chicago Med, the show has taken full advantage of the classic cliffhanger format. In fact, Chicago Med had a classic cliffhanger ending at the end of a mid-season episode.

After Sharon Goodwin was kidnapped by a disgruntled loved one of a former patient, the beloved character was stabbed. Fans had to wait until the next episode finally aired to learn whether Sharon would survive the brutal attack, which she thankfully did.

Several episodes later, Chicago Med's 10th season finale aired. After it was previously revealed that Dr. Hannah Asher had unexpectedly become pregnant, fans were left wondering who would be confirmed to the be father of her child.

Chicago Med Just Crafted A Perfect Episode For One Of The Show's Best Characters

Chicago Med's recent episode told a perfect story for one of its most beloved characters.

Still wanting to help her sister become a mother, Dr. Asher agreed to be a surrogate for Lizzy. However, before that process could begin, Dr. Asher found out that she was pregnant, so she couldn't be a surrogate.

When Dr. Hannah Asher was shown telling her sister, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Asher, about her pregancy, the scene was very painful. After a history of feeling betrayed by Dr. Asher in the past, Lizzy reacted in anger and cited the situation as another example of being hurt by her sister.

Prior to her becoming pregnant, Dr. Asher had been in a relationship with her co-worker, Dr. Mitch Ripley. However, the former couple had broken up by the time Dr. Asher became pregnant. Still, some fans may have assumed that Dr. Ripley was the father of Dr. Asher's baby.

However, Dr. Asher has often been shown to have a close relationship with Dr. Dean Archer. Furthermore, during one Season 10 episode, Dr. Asher spent time alone with Dr. Archer in his house. As a result, some fans may have assumed that Dr. Archer was the father of Dr. Asher's child.

In May 2025, a Screen Rant article looked at the implications of Chicago Med's Dr. Hannah Asher and Dr. Dean Archer's relationship. That article pointed out that if Dr. Asher and Dr. Archer had an intimate encounter during the scene in his home, that would be problematic. After all, at that time, Dr. Archer was grieving after his ex-wife died, so the article argued that fact would taint their possible relationship.

At different points in Chicago Med's Season 10 finale, there were strong implications that Dr. Ripley or Dr. Archer could be the father of Dr. Asher's baby.

Chicago Med’s Recent Romantic Storyline Makes Me Have Extremely Mixed Emotions

A recent Chicago Med romantic storyline made me not be able to decide if I was rooting for it, ot dead set against it.

During one scene, Dr. Asher was shown talking to Dr. Ripley about possibly becoming parents. While she didn't say anything, it certainly seemed like Dr. Asher wanted to tell Dr. Ripley about her pregnancy.

Later during the same episode, Dr. Asher wound up at Dr. Archer's front door again and she told him they needed to talk. While fans didn't see what happened next, Dr. Asher could have been there to tell Dr. Archer she was pregnant with his child. Alternatively, Dr. Asher could be there to talk to her friend about being pregnant with Dr. Ripley's child.

Based on what they saw during the finale, fans were left with a cliffhanger about whether Dr. Archer or Dr. Ripley is the father of Dr. Asher's child.

First off, there was a Chicago Med fan who posted on X/Twitter who clearly completely bought the idea that Dr. Dean Archer is the father of Dr. Hannah Asher's baby. Needless to say, what that fan wrote communicated how shocked they were by the series of events.

"Omg I can’t believe that Hannah baby is dean’s @jschramer I am in shock what a way to end the season finale of Chicago med. @NBCOneChicago #hannahasher #chicagomed"

These Recent Chicago Med Plotlines Hinted At How Fun The Usually Dramatic Show Can Be

Two recent Chicago Med storylines reveal the truth that despite how dramatic the show is, it can be a lot of fun too.

Another X/Twitter user strongly argued that it was completely obvious that Dr. Mitch Ripley is the father of Dr. Asher's baby.

"It's so still Ripleys baby & she's asking Dean for advice. There's no other explanation for that earlier Rasher scene than its his baby absolutely no other explanation. I'm still so convinced it's Ripley's baby. 🤷‍♀️"

One fan on the r/ChicagoMed subreddit didn't get wrapped up in the conjecture over who the father of Dr. Asher's baby is. Instead, that fan responded to someone who wrote about the finale by expressing how beautifully they felt the cliffhanger moment was crafted.

"The way they set it up with Asher in front of the door and Mitch opening up to door and we see it’s one leg girl and not Asher was nuts and then seeing dean open the door and her saying we need to talk was so unexpected. This is one of the best episodes in years. So many unexpected cliffhangers one after the other. I said oh s*** out loud when dean opened the door 😂😂😂"

Between how all these different fans reacted to the cliffhanger, one thing seems very clear. There are a lot of dedicated Chicago Med fans who want to know how the cliffhanger ending will be paid off next season.
