Now that Chicago Med's 10th season has finished, fans of the TV show have to be amazed by how great it was. Between having the best episode ever, doing a great job introducing new characters, and improving a beloved character, Season 10 was wonderful in many ways. While the season could also be surprisingly fun, there were some disappointing aspects as well. Unfortunately, there was a dubious romance, Dr. Mitch Ripley's storyline was a mistake, and Dr. Daniel Charles was treated in a way that needs to stop.
During Chicago Med's 10th season finale, the show was moved forward in many fascinating ways that were great. However, the finale also featured a revelation that was very disappointing for the show's fans to see.
Why Dr. Caitlin Lenox Having Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker Disease Is So Disappointing
During the 10th season finale of Chicago Med, a lot of things happened that left the show's fans feeling emotional. Not only that, Chicago Med's 10th season finale also left fans wondering about the futures of many of the show's main characters.
On the other hand, Chicago Med fans walked away after watching the show's 10th season finale without one less question about one of Chicago Med's main characters. Instead, fans were given a pivotal answer about Dr. Caitlin Lenox.
Unfortunately, the answer that fans were given about Dr. Lenox was very disappointing in more than one way.
As Chicago Med's 10th season progressed, fans learned that Dr. Lenox and her brother, Kip Lenox, had a mother they watched suffer and die. Worse yet, Dr. Lenox and Kip both knew that they had a fifty percent chance of inheriting the disease from her. Not wanting to know the truth, they'd made an agreement to never undergo genetic testing to find out if they were carrying the disease.
During the 10th season of Chicago Med, the show added two new actors to its starring cast. Fans were introduced to Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost, a former child star who left his acting career behind to become a doctor. Simultaneously, Sarah Ramos was introduced as Dr. Caitlin Lenox, a new doctor at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center who became the head of the Emergency Department.
After Kip had a medical scare that made them think he could be suffering the beginning of the disease, they decided to undergo the testing. During a scene in the hospital, the siblings revealed to each other that their tests came back negative, meaning they didn't have the disease.
However, in the final moments of Chicago Med's 10th season, fans learned that Dr. Lenox was lying and she'd inherited Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker disease.

After Chicago Med got fans to care about Dr. Lenox, the show hit them with a major blow. After all, Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker is a fatal disease that takes the lives of those born with it.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke reports that Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker has no cure. Furthermore, it reports that carriers typically pass within two to ten years of first showing symptoms.
After Dr. Lenox revealed her past and her, at that time, potential future to Dr. Dean Archer, the character, was humanized. Chicago Med fans empathized with Dr. Lenox's plight and understood her behavior a little bit better.
Before joining the cast of Chicago Med as Dr. Caitlin Lenox, Sarah Ramos landed roles in a lot of other TV shows. Sarah had starring roles in shows like American Dreams, Runaway, Parenthood, and Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Sarah also made a slew of appearances in other notable shows, including appearing in four episodes of The Bear as a memorable character.
After coming to care for the character, it was sad to learn what her fate would be. Worse yet, after seeing how strong-willed Dr. Lenox is, seeing her overwhelmed with fear and pain in the closing moments of Chicago Med's 10th season finale was painful.

Fans Were Shocked To See Chicago Med Star's Return After 5 Seasons
One of Chicago Med's most complicated and interesting characters made a shocking return after five seasons.
On top of being sad for Dr. Lenox the character, learning she has Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker is disappointing for another reason.
Knowing how TV shows typically handle storylines like this, it seems all but certain that Dr. Lenox's Chicago Med tenure is limited.
When TV shows introduce a story element that can lead to a lot of drama, it typically doesn't take long for that to be paid off. The reason for that is simple, when TV shows introduce a metaphorical bomb, it is only a matter of time until it explodes.
When a TV character is diagnosed with a fatal disease, it is the same thing. As a result, it seems like Dr. Lenox will likely soon begin to suffer from the symptoms of her disease. Since Chicago Med fans have grown to care about Dr. Lenox, it is very disappointing that the character almost certainly will leave the show before too long.
Why Dr. Caitlin Lenox's Diganosis Could Make Chicago Med Better For Now
When Dr. Caitlin Lenox was diagnosed with Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker Disease, there were some notable reasons to be very disappointed. That said, the truth is that the diagnosis will likely lead to some good television in more than one way.

Chicago Med Just Crafted A Perfect Episode For One Of The Show's Best Characters
Chicago Med's recent episode told a perfect story for one of its most beloved characters.
Most obviously, Dr. Lenox's diagnosis is likely going to lead to some great Chicago Med drama.
For example, fans will almost certainly be on the edge of their seats waiting to see Dr. Lenox reveal her diagnosis to someone. On top of that, fans will get to see an actor of Sarah Ramos' caliber coping with the emotional impact of her character's diagnosis.
Another positive aspect of Dr. Lenox's diagnosis is that it might have a positive impact on a group of very important people.
Unfortunately, people who've been born with Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker and diseases that have similar effects don't see themselves represented in the media much. With that in mind, Dr. Lenox's diagnosis has the potential to make people in that group feel a little less alone. That is something that is definitely worthy of celebration.
