The celebrity world is rife with romance. It’s also full of breakups and broken hearts, as well as a huge variety of successful relationships too. Whether it’s healthy co-parenting like Scott and Kourtney, or it’s a beautiful marriage like Jeff Daniels and his wife, love is not always doomed when shaded under the tabloid tree. Unless you’re Christian Bale, of course. While he’s certainly had at least one healthy romantic relationship in his life, there’s a large pool of unrequited love in there too. In the case of Christian Bale, this is where he lands in the pool of celebrity love. At least, when he was 15 he did! Bale was quite the heartthrob even back in the day. Drew Barrymore was also huge in her teenagehood, and it seemed like a great pairing on the surface. Apparently, it wasn’t meant to be, though, and his crush went on unrequited for a while. Is he still bitter about it? Let’s find out.
First: The Story
We love gossip, even when it’s a few decades old. Not only do we find that the older the gossip is, the wilder it is, but it’s also fun to find out stuff about celebrities before they became the characters they are today. Christian Bale is a great example of this. He was a legit heartthrob back when he was a teen. He’s still attractive, for sure, but at the ripe old age of 15 his style was more boyband than serious Hollywood actor. Very compelling to those who would have been 15 around the same time. Although apparently not to Drew Barrymore! According to his memory, “we went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it...She never called again,” which is the equivalent to major heartbreak when you’re 15 years old. She offers no rebuttal, or excuse even now. People, this is drama! Poor Christian Bale had a major crush on Drew Barrymore, and even got the teenage queen of Hollywood to go out and see a movie with him! And yet, it was not meant to be.
It Worked Out
At least, it worked out for Bale. He took the heartbreak hard at first, but back in 2000 he found himself singing a different tune. “I never planned to marry… Everyone was divorced in my family, so I didn’t have very healthy ideas about marriage. Then I met Sibi and suddenly it seemed [like] a fantastic idea.” Sibi, for those that don’t know is his wife of twenty years. Her name is Sibi Blažić and she was a model and makeup artist. Now she is all those wonderful things as well as a mother and stunt artist! “My wife was a stunt driver — she was chasing me through the city in Batman. She was driving one of the cop cars. She can do 180s and stunts and all that...She terrifies me. My wife terrifies me." In the best possible way, though, we’re glad to report. They show no signs of stopping this relationship, proof that sometimes it is better to give up on those failed dates and unrequited loves.
Drew Barrymore has also found success since her subtle rejection of 15-year-old Christian Bale, despite a bit of a rocky road previously. She’s definitely got a lot of love in her life, but she hasn’t found the romantic kind lasting. “I’ve tried [online dating]. I went on a couple of dates. A lot of people totally ghosted me. And one time I was waiting to go on a date, and at the time we were supposed to meet he just wrote, ‘Yeah, I can’t,'” which we’re not saying is a karma move, but it may be it kind of is. She seems happy, though, and despite her two divorces, she’s got a wonderful family and a lot of love in her life. She’s certainly not lacking in love, which shows that one failed date does not a disaster make. She doesn’t seem crushed, either. Her views on marriage have radically shifted over the years and she’s an adamant anti-marriager now. Love? Sure, sign her up. But it seems like tying the knot is “knot” in her future again.
So, there you have it. Christian Bale once upon a time had a big ol’ crush on Drew Barrymore. And he even got to take her out on a date! The love was not shared, though, as she promptly made the decision to not call him back. Things worked out well for Christian Bale, though, who found that it didn’t stunt him moving forward in the realm of love. Drew Barrymore has been less lucky than Bale in romantic love, but it hasn’t crushed her. She’s a big fan of love in general and has a wonderful family to back her up and fulfill her love needs. It all worked out!
