Lisa Kudrow is in the midst of promoting her latest project, Time Bandits. During her media tour, Friends has been a hot topic. That was especially the case during Kudrow's recent conversation with Conan O'Brien. The interview did not disappoint, and Conan himself was noticeably entertained by Kudrow's stories from the past.
Kudrow had a lot of positives to say about her time on the show, especially when it came to Matthew Perry. However, there was a certain part of the show she absolutely despised, and we can understand why. Kudrow looked genuinely angry discussing what bothered her the most about shooting Friends. Let's recap what she had to say, and more.
Conan O'Brien Burst Into Laughter After Lisa Kudrow Revealed She Hated The Friends Live Audience Reactions To Certain Jokes
Lisa Kudrow changed her career on Friends. However, at the start, there was some uncertainty. In particular, there was one aspect of the show Lisa Kudrow didn't like, and that was the live audience. It wasn't because she was nervous or anything of the sort. Instead, reactions from the crowd would drag at times and ruin certain scenes. In addition, if the showrunners didn't like a particular scene and how the audience reacted, it would need to be shot for a second time with a different line. Kudrow wasn't always eager over the audience's reaction, especially given that what counted most was those at home.
Kudrow tells Conan, "They were laughing for too long. It wasn't that funny. It irritated me. Now you're just running the timing of the show. Really angry. A TV show is not for the studio audience, it's made for the viewers at home. If it were a stageplay, laugh as long as you want. It's being filmed, and I'm standing there. We did so many takes, that did stop laughing. And they'd make the writers think it wasn't funny. It took six to eight hours to shoot a half hour episode."
O'Brien had a blast with the reveal and so did the others in the room. The moment takes place at the start of the interview below.
Kudrow made other confessions about Friends during her chat with Conan. One of them is that she's finally watching the show back all these years following Matthew Perry's passing.
Kudrow spoke at length about Matthew Perry's brilliance on the show.
Conan O'Brien Admitted To Lisa Kudrow That He Was Jealous Of Matthew Perry's Success On The Show
Kudrow also opened up about Matthew Perry during her interview with Conan. The Friends cast has been relatively quiet about Perry since his passing. Kudrow on the flip side discussed watching the show back because of the actor. “I used to not be able to watch it at all,” she explained. “I mean, I'd see it on and be mildly interested, and then I'd see me and say, that's enough of that. I can't bear it. And then well, listen. After Matthew died, I could start watching the show again because it wasn't about me. It had to do with him for some reason.”
O'Brien also chimed in, admitting he felt jealous over Perry and his comedic talents. “You called me up, and you were raving about Matthew. “Yes. And you were saying, he's so funny ... There was part of me that was jealous,” he shared. “Like, I was okay. I make you laugh pretty hard, and you were like, 'No, you don't understand. This guy's really [funny].' "
Lisa Kudrow initially thought Chandler's character was gay.
