November 27, 2021 will mark the second anniversary of 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson's awkward interview on The Ellen Show. The interview in question was released in 2018, when Ellen DeGeneres accused the actress of not inviting her to her celebrity-filled birthday bash. Dakota kindly, but firmly corrected the popular host, calling for DeGeneres' producers to back her up.
"Actually, no, that's not the truth, Ellen," Johnson responded when DeGeneres brought up the snub. Although Ellen denied being invited, someone with the show confirmed off-camera that DeGeneres has been in fact invited, and didn't attend the party since she had to go somewhere out of town. Fans have since dubbed the moment a "cultural reset".
Was Ellen Invited?
On October 5, Dakota was spotted celebrating her birthday at dinner, with her actress-mom Melanie Griffith and friends. The actress dressed casually for the celebration, wearing her hair in an elegant updo, similar to that of her mother's.
Johnson's fans soon began wondering if the actress had invited Ellen to the bash this time around!
"Was Ellen there?" questioned a fan.
"Did Ellen get an invite?" inquired another.
"But the real question is...was Ellen invited??" a fan wrote.
"happy birthday to the mastermind of ellen degeneres's downfall dakota johnson!" said a user.
Dakota's fans also questioned whether her boyfriend, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was absent from the dinner. "And Chris? Or they aren't together anymore????"
It is unknown whether the singer attended his girlfriend's birthday celebration, but the couple were last seen together at a café in Paris on Valentine's Day 2021.
Johnson's 32nd birthday appears to be a low-key affair. As per online sources, the actor and her close pals enjoyed an al fresco dinner at an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles.
For her 30th birthday however, the actor had celebrated in a full-fledged birthday bash in Malibu alongside her beau Chris Martin, and other friends and family. Celebrities including Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Miley Cyrus attended the party!
While Ellen explained her reason not to attend the party was because she "had to go somewhere", the host was spotted at a football game in the city on the same day. Ever since the interview, fans have commended Johnson for "destroying" DeGeneres on her own talk show.
