Thanks to the premiere of the highly anticipated trailer for the 20th-anniversary special Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts, things have been buzzing amongst fans of the wizarding world.
There has been lots of speculation as to which cast members are going to return for the special, with some fans expressing their fears that their favorites may snub the reunion, which is set to air on New Year’s Day 2022.
In particular, Daniel Radcliffe—who portrayed Harry Potter himself—contributed to their greatest fears when he announced on The Jonathon Ross Show that he can’t watch himself in Harry Potter.
Even though starring in the franchise changed Radcliffe’s life and secured him financially for the rest of it, he still finds it difficult to watch himself in the films.
Keep reading to find out why, and whether or not he’ll be making an appearance in the upcoming reunion special alongside his former castmates.
What Daniel Radcliffe Said On ‘The Jonathon Ross Show’
During an appearance on Britain’s The Johnathon Ross Show, Daniel Radcliffe opened up about how he feels about watching himself in Harry Potter.
While the rest of the world may adore watching the young actor star in the franchise, Radcliffe revealed, to the surprise of his fans, that he doesn’t like to watch himself act in the iconic movies.
He told the talk-show host that he did watch the movies when he attended the premieres with his castmate, immediately after working on each film. But then he tries “to never watch it again.”
Why Daniel Radcliffe Can’t Watch Himself As Harry Potter
Why can’t Daniel Radcliffe stand to watch himself as Harry Potter? The actor described the experience as passing around baby photos of himself.
A lot of fans may not be able to empathize, but it’s natural for actors to not enjoy watching themselves on the big screen!
Given that most of the Harry Potter cast was so young when they acted in the films, it’s understandable that it would be difficult for them to re-watch their work.
The One ‘Harry Potter’ Movie Daniel Radcliffe Dislikes The Most
Despite the fact that he doesn’t like to actively re-watch the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe has seen them all at least once. That means he’s got a definite least favorite. According to Marie Claire, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the star’s worst performance as Harry Potter (in the mind of the actor himself).
“I’m just not very good in it,” Radcliffe explained in an interview with Playboy. “I hate it … my acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across.”
Much to the delight of fans, Radcliffe also opened up about his favorite Harry Potter film: “My best film is the fifth one [Order of the Phoenix] because I can see a progression.”
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but we can’t help but note that Daniel Radcliffe seems to be in the minority regarding his views on his Harry Potter acting. Actually, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince raked in more than $934 million at the box office.
Does Daniel Radcliffe Like The ‘Harry Potter’ Theme Music?
In the infamous interview with Johnathon Ross, Daniel Radcliffe made another admission about his true feelings regarding the world of Harry Potter. Not only does he not enjoy watching himself in the films, but he also doesn’t really like the theme music.
In the actor’s own words, his “heart dies” when he hears people using the music as a ring tone!
Which Other ‘Harry Potter’ Star Doesn’t Watch The Movies
Interestingly, Daniel Radcliffe isn’t the only Harry Potter actor who doesn’t care for watching the movies. Miriam Margolyes, who portrayed Professor Sprout in the films, has revealed that she has never seen a single Harry Potter movie.
The British actress confessed that she’s just not into the Harry Potter world and hasn’t read the books either. But she does enjoy the royalty paychecks that come through from the film!
Daniel Radcliffe Will Join The ‘Harry Potter’ Reunion
When Daniel Radcliffe admitted that he doesn’t enjoy watching the Harry Potter movies and he doesn’t like the theme music, fans were worried that he wouldn’t be part of the 20th-anniversary special Return to Hogwarts. But luckily, fans can put their minds at ease!
According to Variety, Daniel Radcliffe will be making an appearance at the reunion, along with plenty of famous castmates.
Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who portrayed Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively, will also be joining the reunion. The anniversary special is set to air on New Year’s Day 2022 and fans can’t wait!
