Taylor Swift is currently taking over stadiums around the world with her "Eras Tour." The world tour celebrates Swift's impressive career. Her musicianship, songwriting, and singing talent have captivated fans worldwide.
It has also captivated fellow artists, some of them legends. One of those legends is The Beatles' Paul McCartney. McCartney and Swift have shown each other mutual admiration for a long time. So much so that Swift was one of several guests at McCartney's house one night for a party.
It was at this party that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was also in attendance. Grohl would later reveal how he ended up performing an impromptu duet with Swift in a moment that "saved" him.
Paul McCartney Revealed Taylor Swift Inspired One Of His Songs
When McCartney released his album "Egypt Station," many of his fans were surprised to learn that one of its tracks was inspired by Swift. The song "Who Cares" is mainly inspired by Swift's personal life and her relationship with her fans.
McCartney spoke about Swift and the song's inspiration in a BBC interview.
"I was actually thinking about Taylor Swift and her relationship to her young fans and how it’s sort of a sisterly thing," McCartney said. "And I was imagining talking to one of these young fans and saying, ‘Have you ever been bullied? Do you get bullied?’"
Swift herself would also talk about McCartney's influence on her as well in an interview with Country Music Channel.
"I discovered his music on my own as a child, then bought all of the Beatles and Paul McCartney tapes and CDs I could find," Swift revealed. "Paul writes about his life and the things he’s learned about love in such a brilliantly simple way. I feel as if I’ve been let into his heart and his mind."
Swift would eventually meet her idol backstage after one of his concerts.
"When I met him backstage at his 2010 concert in Nashville," she recalled. "I remember being excited that he was such a kind person. Seeing him sing ‘Blackbird’ live will always be a moment I won’t forget."
Paul McCartney Planned On Performing 'Shake It Off' With Taylor During Glastonbury
Swift and McCartney's mutual respect for each other was on display again when the two interviewed each other for Rolling Stone in 2020.
The conversation was filled with revelations, including McCartney's surprising plans for the Glastonbury Festival in the UK, which was canceled due to the pandemic.
"It would’ve been great, wouldn’t it? And I was going to be asking you to play with me," McCartney told Swift.
"Were you going to invite me?" Swift asked. "I was hoping that you would. I was going to ask you."
"I would’ve done ‘Shake It Off,’" McCartney revealed. "I know it, it’s in C!"
Taylor Saved Dave Grohl During A Party At Paul McCartney's House
Due to Swift and McCartney's mutual admiration for each other, it's not hard to imagine them hanging out together. However, Dave Grohl was also hanging with the two one night during a party at McCartney's home.
Grohl explained what it was like playing with McCartney during an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
"When you go to jam with him, you’re jamming with Paul McCartney," Grohl said. "But there was one time at a party that we all went to, and I wanted to leave early because I had to get my kids to the bus stop at seven o’clock in the morning."
Despite telling his wife they needed to leave at 10:30, Grohl said that was when the party started getting "really good."
"Paul got up and started playing this song on piano, and it was a new song," he said. "It was amazing just to sit in his living room and watch him play piano. He finished, and everyone turned to me and said, ‘Alright, Dave, play a song!'"
When recalling the experience on The Howard Stern Show, Grohl said it was like a nightmare "where you’re naked and running backwards, and you’re in school, and your teeth are falling out."
"I can’t play piano, and I was a little out of sorts at that point," Grohl told Corden. "All of the guitars are left-handed, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, what do I do? What do I do?’ and at that point, Taylor Swift stands up and goes, ‘I’ll do a song.’ So she saved my a**."
Grohl was then surprised by what happened next.
"I’m looking at my wife like, ‘I know this song. What is this song?’ She was playing the Foo Fighters song, ‘Best of You,'" he said. "I kind of just slumped down like, ‘Oh god this is…’ But she was singing it so-it was so beautiful. It sounded so great. So then I got up next to her and started singing along. ‘Singing’ with her. Because I sang it the way I sing it [Screams lyrics]. Next to Paul and the piano. It was crazy."
Swift herself would later recall this moment during her 2021 conversation with McCartney in Rolling Stone.
"I was playing it on piano, and he didn’t recognize it until about halfway through," Swift recalled. "I seem to remember Woody Harrelson got on the piano, and he starts playing ‘Let It Be,’ and I’m thinking, ‘I can do that better.'"
