Dave Grohl has only enhanced his public image in the recent years. Fans praised Grohl for his appearance on Hot Ones, calling his episode the most underrated of the entire series. The artist also isn't afraid to show really emotion, breaking down during a performance while honoring the late Taylor Hawkins.

In the following, we're going to look at another side of Grohl, and one that shows how much he cares about the fans. Early on during a concert in Sweden, the unthinkable took place as Grohl broke his leg. It would've been justifiable to end the show right then and there, or the show to continue on without Dave. However, that wasn't the case. Let's take a look back at how it all went down.

The fall would take place in Sweden, yet Dave Grohl would still play an anniversary show in Washington D.C. on the Fourth of July. The Foo Fighters managed to make things work during the difficult moment, and Grohl himself would milk the moment, sitting on a Thorne during his following performances. Looking back at the moment alongside EW, the rocker admitted he hadn't even noticed his leg broke until he looked down at it.

Grohl revealed, "When it happened, I didn't feel a thing. I tried to get up and walk and my ankle collapsed under my weight. I just fell back to the ground and looked up at my road crew and said "It's broken. It's gone." The band didn't know what was happening, so they kept playing."

He continues, "I looked at [my foot] and it was just hanging there, because it was dislocated and my leg was broken. But it still didn't hurt. One by one the guys in the band stopped playing peered over the edge of the stage. I was just laughing. I couldn't believe it happened. It was in the second song too, that's what was such a drag."

We assume most artists might call it a day after such an incident. However, that was not the case for Grohl who courageously returned...

Dave Grohl Took A Brief Pause And Returned To The 52,000 Fans After Breaking His Leg

Foo Fighters fans won't forget the moment. Dave Grohl taking the microphone and saying, "I think I just broke my leg." Grohl made the reveal so casually, and most expected the show to end. However, given how early it all happened, Grohl had every intent on continuing the show.

"There were 52,000 people, so I grabbed a microphone and I told everyone that I was going to fix it and come back. I didn't know if that meant in 20 minutes or a month, but I wanted to keep playing. They pulled me to the side of the stage and the doctor said, "Your ankle's dislocated and I have to put it back into place right now."

"They put this roll of gauze in my mouth and I screamed and bit down on it and they put my ankle back into place and then everyone was quiet for a minute. The Foo Fighters were onstage playing a Queen song or something and I looked down and said, "OK, can I go back on stage now?" Because it didn't hurt. My paramedic doctor said "I have to hold your ankle in place," and I said, "Well, then you're coming on stage with me right now." And he did."

Grohl would go on to reveal that he really only felt the pain once the show came to an end. As expected, fans had nothing but praise for the way the Foo Fighters frontman handled it all.

"So selfless. Really admirable. Already rich, already famous, successful, broken leg and he refuses to let people down," a fan writes.

"I'm sorry it's not funny that he broke his leg, but when he came back being carried on a stretcher during under pressure and joined in on the song without skipping a beat I cracked up. That was badass."

What a moment and one the fans on-hand won't ever forget.

At first, it seemed like the moment might be a setback for the group. However, they managed to turn it into a positive. According to Grohl, it was the most fun the group had, enjoying some their favorite shows.

Dave revealed with EW at the time, "The shows we've been doing lately are some of our favorite shows we've ever done, and I'm not kidding. We talk about this after every show in the dressing room: What seemed like some sort of set back at the time has turned into this beautiful blessing in disguise, where this throne and these crutches and these audiences make us play longer and harder than we ever have."

"It's this whole new energy in the show. My ankle is doing great but the shows are three hours long, so on a day off it sounds like this. Crazy!"

Things haven't changed for the group in 2023, with a huge schedule on tap for both September and October.
