90 Day Fiancé fans were saddened recently to learn that one of the reality TV franchise's stars, David Murphey, had died.

The sad news was first shared by a close friend or family member of David's via his Instagram account on Wednesday, December 18, and shocked condolences followed.

The lengthy post began:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that David Murphey, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away at home on December 11, 2024 after experiencing health issues over the last several years. He was 66 years old."

90 Day Fiancé's Statler, who pledged to donate to a cat charity in remembrance of David, commented in part: "So sorry to hear that. He was such a nice guy. Shocking and unexpected. May he rest easy."

Others from the franchise also shared their dismay at his passing:

"Fellow 90 Day Fiancé alums left condolences on the page, like Amira Lollysa: 'My friend. Rest in peace 🙏'

"Tom Brooks, who seemed shocked by the news, left a comment: 'We were only with him last week. RIP my friend, heartbreaking.'"

David was well-known to 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days due to his tumultuous relationship with former Ukrainian flame, Lana.

Lana and David interacted online for seven long years, and Lana stood David up at least once when he visited Ukraine to meet her.

In May 2020, they finally met in person, and David later addressed their false starts in a confessional, saying:

Nothing in the past even matters.

Two years later, however, both David and Lana confirmed that they'd gone their separate ways.

David's cause of death was not initially disclosed, and his family requested "privacy during this difficult time."

TMZ Contacted Clark County, Nevada Officials

On December 19, one day after David's death was disclosed, TMZ published a follow-up report.

The outlet got in touch with officials in Clark County, Nevada, and obtained further information.

According to the outlet, David Murphey's cause of death was "heart-related":

"A Clark County, Nevada spokesperson tells TMZ ... the reality TV star, who was best known for appearing on '90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,' died from heart-related problems -- including cardiac arrhythmia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease."

TMZ also claimed that David "had a history of pulmonary embolism," and it wasn't clear if the site was describing a singular incident or a more chronic health concern.

In their reporting, the outlet cited sources "with direct knowledge" of David's medical concerns, and asserted he had been diagnosed with liver cancer roughly a year ago — but it wasn't clear whether that condition was a factor.

Consequently, TMZ says, "David's death has been ruled as a natural one."
