After Pete Davidson joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, he became one of the show's most talked about stars in years. Between Davidson's openness about his mental health and all the major celebrities he dated, that was more than enough to get fans talking.
Amazingly enough, however, it often seemed like Davidson gave observers new reasons to focus on him weekly. One example of that is Davidson accumulated an impressive car collection that was expensive enough that some observers wondered if he had any of his SNL money left.
Inside Pete Davidson's Insane Car Collection
When anyone starts to look into Pete Davidson's past, they are going to find out amazing facts like he once bought a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry with Colin Jost. No matter how hilarious and mind-blowing that is, Davidson's relationship with his family is the most fascinating thing about him.
When it comes to Pete Davidson's family, most people focus on his father passing away because of the September 11th tragedy. Failing that, the fact that Davidson used to live with his mom years after he rose to fame got a lot of attention. While that makes sense, there is another fact about Davidson's family that also deserves attention.
Over the last several years, fans have learned that Pete Davidson accumulated an expensive car collection. What many people don't know is that Davidson's family is the inspiration behind the car collection since the famous actor bought his second expensive car because of his grandfather.
In 2017, Davidson bought a Mercedes Benz S-500. At the time, Davidson went on Instagram and posted a since-deleted video of his grandfather behind the car's wheel with a caption that explained what inspired him to buy it.
"Since I was 5 years old my grandpa always told me he wanted to drive a S Class. The other day my mom took him out in mine. This video makes me cry"
While it was wonderful to see Davidson share that video, there is always someone on social media who thinks they know better. As a result, comments on Davidson's post started to call the SNL star out for not giving the Mercedes to his grandfather.
Before too long, Davidson responded to those comments perfectly. "Guys I'd give him the car but he can barely drive. Did you watch the video?"
In the past, Davidson has remarked that he doesn't "give a s**t about cars". Despite that, the other two cars that Davidson added to his collection were expensive. Before Davidson bought the Mercedes S-Class his grandfather wanted, he'd previously purchased a Mercedes Benz G 550 SUV.
After Davidson bought both of those vehicles from Mercedes, he made another purchase from the company when he bought a Mercedes GT63 AMG.
According to the website Car HP, the cheapest Mercedes Benz S-500 costs at least $112,150. The website also claims the cheapest Mercedes GT63 AMG that is available comes with a $140,600 suggested retail price. Finally, they report a Mercedes Benz G 550 SUV is listed at $140,950.
While those figures certainly could be disputed, they illustrate the fact that Davidson's car collection would have cost him hundreds of thousands. Given how much Davidson spent to own those vehicles, it is a shame to know what the fate of one of them was.
In March 2023, Davidson was out driving in Los Angeles one night with his girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders. Davidson then lost control of his vehicle and got into an accident that did a lot of damage to both his car and a stranger's home.
At the time of the accident, this is how the Los Angeles Times summed up the damage that was done to Davidson's car and city property. "Officers found a wrecked dark-colored four-door Mercedes-Benz and a damaged city fire hydrant."
Roughly three months later, there was an update on what happened the night that Davidson got into that accident. After concluding their investigation, the LAPD announced they were charging Davidson with reckless driving.
“We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home. Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision.”
How Much Money Did Pete Davidson Make On Saturday Night Live?
Since Saturday Night Live is one of television's longest-running shows, fans have had a lot of time to become curious about how the show is made. One of the most common questions about Saturday Night Live is how much the show's stars get paid.
Thanks to a 2022 Cosmopolitan report about how much SNL stars get paid, it seems to be pretty easy to discern how much money Pete Davidson made from the show.
According to the report, SNL cast members get paid $7,000 per episode for their first season. Since Davidson was credited for 21 episodes during his first SNL season, he would have received $147,000.
Cosmopolitan claims that SNL stars get a $1,000 per episode raise for their second season. Davidson would have been paid $168,000 for his second season after appearing in another 21 episodes assuming the report is accurate.
Cosmopolitan doesn't state if SNL stars get a raise for their third and fourth seasons. If they don't, Davidson would have been paid an additional $336,000 for his third and fourth seasons since he is credited for an additional 42 episodes between those two seasons.
For their fifth season, SNL stars reportedly get a substantial raise to $15,000 per episode. That means Davidson's appearances in 21 episodes that season would have netted him $315,000. Finally, Cosmopolitan reports that the most an SNL star can make is $25,000 per episode. If Davidson got that much for his final three seasons, he would have been paid $1.35 million for the 54 episodes he is credited for.
If all those figures are accurate, Davidson would have been paid just over $2 million for his SNL tenure. Since the comedy actor's car collection cost only hundreds of thousands, clearly the actor didn't spend all of his SNL money on his vehicles.
