Two legendary pop icons from the 1980s are Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Both were young crossover artists who broke down barriers on MTV and in mainstream white media. They were both propelled into superstardom at a young age. It shouldn't be surprising that the two clicked because they were probably hanging out in the same circles and attending the same events at the time.

While Jackson and Houston were at the height of their celebrity success, it was kept a secret from the public that the two were having a romantic affair, and some reports claim that Jackson even stated that he had a dream of marrying the artist. But did fans know that the King of Pop’s security even claimed that the singers were in a relationship? Let’s dig deeper to know the truth behind the duo’s relationship.

Although his odd bond with the royalty is well known, his relationship with fellow music icon may not have garnered the same kind of scrutiny and attention.

It seemed inevitable that Jackson and Houston would cross paths because they were two of the biggest and most well-known pop singers of the 20th century.

Years after their tragic deaths, it has come to light that the two may have been more than just friends, if only for a brief period of time. So what really did their relationship entail?

According to Jackson’s former bodyguard Matt Fiddes, the alleged affair between Jackson and Houston lasted just two weeks.

Former Bodyguard Reveals Details On Michael Jackson And Whitney Houston's Love Affair

Fiddes revealed, “They met because they were two of the biggest recording artists on the planet and mixing in the same circles. They instantly connected as kindred spirits because they understood each other’s massive fame. Whitney practically moved in to Michael’s ranch and they had a fling like any other young couple.”

However, Fiddes divulged that the alleged tryst only lasted two weeks.

“But Michael said later he had always hoped the relationship had gone further, and I know he dreamed of marrying her,” the former bodyguard also claimed Jackson kept this information secret because it wasn’t “wacko” enough for public consumption.

Apparently, it appeared that Jackson even considered marrying Houston and wished that their relationship was more than just a fling. But it was not to be as Jackson found out that years earlier Houston had a long affair with his brother, Jermaine.

Jermaine, who was a producer, collaborated with Houston in the early '80s. During this period, the two fell for each other romantically even though the producer was married to his first wife, Berry Gordy’s daughter, Hazel.

As a result, their romance was limited to a brief relationship because Jermaine's marriage prevented it from developing further.

With such promising start of a relationship between Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, what could have gone wrong? Close friends of the King of Pop said that “he was too shy.”

He revealed, “Later, he confessed to me he should have made every move.” Some thought that it could be because of his brother’s previous affair with the singer, while other rumors claimed that they went on a date for PR only.

Is Michael And Whitney’s Romantic Affair For PR Only? Fans Think So

Though the furtive affair between Jackson and Houston lasted just two weeks, it was claimed by Jackson’s bodyguard that the King of Pop never truly moved on from his love of Houston.

Singer Brandy, who herself shared a close relationship with the singer-actress, further shared the nature of the connection between the two legendary icons.

In 2016, Brandy posted a picture on her Instagram with the caption: “She told that Michael had a crush on her… I was like, whoa!!! #NippyJackson.” The photo was likely taken around the time of the affair. However, it seemed that not everyone thinks that there’s really a romantic affair going on between the two.

A Reddit user posted a photo of the rumored couple with the caption: “Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston during their FLING in 1989.”

The post received ample of likes and comments, to which one of the fans wrote: “Slow clap for their PR teams.” Another agreed, “That’s my reaction to most Hollywood/entertainment biz pairings.”

Another Reddit user commented on the post, “There was no fling. Why lie? She was visiting him at Neverland I think or his familys [sic] Encino house. He has pictures like this with fans and family members lmao.”

Though Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston never admitted to the rumored fling, it was true that the two went on to die in tragic similar circumstances – alone and destroyed by drugs.
