Halle Berry's career has made countless headlines over the years, but so have her relationships. Once she welcomed two children—both in her forties, another cause for headlines—her personal business was splashed in the headlines even more. Berry has been married three times but has been in additional long-term relationships, one of which produced a child. Halle also shares a child with one of her ex-husbands.

Because of the allegations that were thrown back and forth, and the exorbitant amount of child support Halle Berry was once ordered to pay, fans have had many questions about Halle's custody cases and where her kids wound up.

Fans might remember Halle Berry's exceedingly complex child custody case following her split from her first child's father. Halle and Gabriel Aubry welcomed their daughter Nahla in 2008, but things didn't end quickly or painlessly when they headed to court.

When Halle began dating someone new, and petitioned the court to be able to move her and Gabriel's daughter to France (the petition was denied), drama ensued.

Eventually, Gabriel Aubry and Olivier Martinez, Halle's new boyfriend, had a physical altercation on Thanksgiving. Both parties left the altercation with broken bones, according to People, and a protective order requiring Aubry to stay away from Halle, Olivier, and Nahla.

After that, Halle went on to welcome a child with Olivier Martinez in 2013. The two were married earlier that year but later divorced in 2015. That court case lingered as well, however, and involved more custody drama.

Did Halle Berry Lose Custody Of Her Children?

It doesn't appear that Halle Berry ever lost custody of her children. She does, however, share custody of each of her two kids with their respective fathers. That means Halle, as the higher-earning parent in both scenarios, must pay child support to both Gabriel Aubry and Olivier Martinez.

While custody became contentious in both cases, both arrangements ended in 50-50 custody with Halle having her son and daughter in her care for half of the time. Fewer details are available about Halle's settlement with her second child's father, but it is assumed that their split was not quite as acrimonious.

The former couple did return to court at one point following their divorce to agree on vacation terms; Halle and Olivier agreed that either party could take their son out of California for vacations, as long as they either traveled with the child for handoff or paid a nanny to do so.

How Much Child Support Does Halle Berry Pay?

Originally, the court ordered Halle to pay $16,000 per month to Gabriel for their daughter Nahla. That amount was later lowered to $8,000, as the original figure was based on Halle's income from 2012, noted Yahoo! News.

At the time, Halle was earning millions of dollars per year, while Gabriel made under $200K. Halle was also on the hook for Aubry's legal fees, retroactive child support payments, and private school tuition for their daughter.

Halle once took to Instagram to drag the child support system for what she felt was unfair treatment. She wrote, "I’ve been paying it for a decade now. I feel if a woman or man is having to pay support that is way more than the reasonable needs to help SUPPORT the child, I think that is wrong!"

This appeared to be a reflection on the fact that she paid so much support to Aubry, who was not working at the time and was using his child support payments to care for himself, according to court documents. Halle had argued that he should work and pay his own bills.

In the same social media post, Berry wrote, "The way many laws are set up, people are allowed to USE children in order to be awarded money to live a lifestyle that not only did they not earn, but that is way above and beyond the child’s reasonable needs, and that is ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see the abuse."

As far as payments to Olivier Martinez, multiple sources confirm that Halle does pay child support to him, but there are no clear figures on the amount. Looking at the former couple's divorce filing, it appeared that Halle and Olivier had a prenuptial agreement.

Per People, the prenup covers child custody—suggesting that Halle checked all the boxes while getting married for the third time. Per the publication, Halle asked, "for the costs of raising their child to be shared as per terms of their prenup."

Halle has expressed in past interviews that she might be naive when it comes to love and relationships. After multiple failed marriages and violent splits, it seems she has found a non-headline-making relationship at last. At least, they aren't making headlines for negative reasons.

Though she faked a wedding ceremony with her boyfriend Van Hunt in 2022, Halle appears to be unmarried in 2023. And based on the record of court dates and custody arrangements, it seems that Halle has 50-50 custody of both Nahla and Maceo.
