Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were married for six years from 2008 to 2014. During that time, the two renewed their vows four times to keep their fairytale romance alive and were widely known as the Hollywood 'it' couple. Carey and Cannon even share two children together: twins Monroe and Moroccan Scott.
However, the fairytale wasn't meant to be.
By 2013, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey were beginning to face marital problems (details of which are not fully known to the public). And by 2014, they filed for divorce, shortly after both stopped wearing their wedding rings.
Since then Nick Cannon has surprised the world with his incredible baby-making prowess (he is currently the father of 12 children with five other baby mamas) and Mariah Carey has moved on with her now-boyfriend Bryan Tanaka.
But the truth is, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon can never fully move on from each other. They will always have two kids to look out for and co-parent. Although for Mariah, it probably is pretty embarrassing that her ex doesn't believe in monogamy anymore and has fathered children in the double digits now.
What Mariah Carey Has Said About Nick Cannon's Other Kids
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon never got into a public feud even after they filed for divorce. And both continue to be respectful when speaking about each other and about co-parenting their children.
But according to an insider, Mariah doesn't keep up with Nick's “growing family.”
“There’s too many [children] to keep up with!” the source said. “She’s happy for him and wishes him the best.”
But is that true?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mariah Carey became visibly uncomfortable and started fidgeting when she was asked if Cannon's other children would ever get an invitation to her well-known, extra-special Christmas bashes.
She stumbled on her words at first and then clarified to the interviewer that her children do not have any step-siblings.
Nick Cannon And Mariah Carey Might Not Be On Good Terms
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon kept it classy for the public throughout their divorce proceedings. Cannon even defended her on Twitter and said only good things about his ex-wife in interviews. But their divorce was pretty heated behind the scenes.
According to an insider, Carey was three hours late to the 2016 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree taping because she and Cannon were 'arguing for five hours over property and the custody of their children'.
So now that Radar Online has reported that Carey is most likely filing for primary custody of their kids Monroe and Moroccan, based on information from an insider, it's possible that Cannon and Carey's relationship has deteriorated even more now after his 12th child was born recently.
Mariah Carey Has Allegedly Filed For Full Custody Of Her Twins With Nick Cannon
According to the source, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon had 'an amicable joint custody arrangement' so far. But she's now looking to gain full custody of the twins 'as she feels it's best for her children'.
"The reality of the situation is that Monroe and Moroccan are usually with Mariah anyway. Nick doesn't see much of them," the source said.
“She wants to put him on notice that he can't just flit in and out of their lives while he attends to his other children. And she wants legal standing as the twins' primary caregiver."
The source did clarify that Nick Cannon is a 'doting father' and tries his best to keep in touch with his kids as much as possible.
Nick Cannon is said to pay over $3 million annually for child support for all his children. He FaceTimes all of them equally, as often as he can when he is not in town. And it's said that when he is in town to visit a particular baby mama and kid(s), he drops them off at school and picks them up every day.
"Being a father of multiple kids, it's always the biggest guilt on me is that I don't get to spend enough time with all my children," Cannon said in an episode of The Checkup with Dr. Agus. "One, cause I'm constantly working, and two, because I'm just spread thin."
As for co-parenting Monroe and Moroccan, his children with Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon said in an episode of his talk show The Nick Cannon Show that he snuck them cellphones on their 10th birthday even though Mariah didn't want them to have one and didn't want them to 'find out about their new brothers and sisters' from the internet.
"I was all for [getting them phones] but Mariah was like, 'Uh huh they aren't going to be Googling us, learning about all their new brothers and sisters, no we aren't playing,'" Cannon said. "Mariah is still mad at me to this day."
Does Mariah Carey Regret Her Marriage To Nick Cannon?
In her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the singer-songwriter revealed what drew her to Nick Cannon at first when they met.
"He was a good guy. He was faith-based. He was ambitious. He had been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so he understood the madness. He paid attention to me,” Carey wrote.
"Honestly, I think Nick and I could have worked it out between the two of us, but egos and emotions got inflamed (which can translate into many billable lawyer hours, and ultimately it did).”
She also said in an interview with People that both of them were doing a good job co-parenting their kids. “I think Nick and I have done pretty well in co-parenting, staying friends with each other so that we can talk."
But Nick Cannon once revealed something during an interview that contradicts this picture of peace and truce painted by Carey in her memoir.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cannon revealed that his son Moroccan once called him "a player."
"It's the funniest thing, my kids call me a player. I was like, 'Who taught you that word? Who's been talking to you?' And [Moroccan's] like, 'Dad you can't be a player forever.' I'm like, this is the worst."
