Sam Heughan Shares Some Truths About Outlander Ending

Sam Heughan is now a household name with his own foundation for good causes and television spinoff. However, the Outlander actor is contemplating the day when he is no longer a part of the series that has elevated him to a status as an international celebrity.

Though the Outlander book series still has two novels to go, the Starz adaptation may be on course to its conclusion. The historical TV series, which was filmed in Scotland and is based on Diana Gabaldon's novels, has a sizable audience, but Sam is aware that his portrayal of Jamie Fraser is not going to last indefinitely.

When he was asked if he knows how the series will end, Sam said, “Diana Gabaldon actually revealed to me how the whole thing’s going to end. She emailed me the last few pages of what will be the last book very early on, I think in the first few weeks of shooting and no one else has seen that I think, apart from one other exec producer. Even Caitriona’s not seen it and I’m sworn to secrecy.”

The book author Diana has previously revealed that there will be ten books in total in the series, and as of this year, she has started writing the last one. She has also divulged that the series will wrap up in Scotland, around the year 1800, and that it will be both uplifting and devastating.

She wrote, “The last book will have a happy ending, though I confidently expect it to leave the readers in floods of tears, anyway.” Regardless of what happens, it is incredibly impressive that the TV adaptation has gone on for seven seasons. Starz has yet to greenlight the eighth installment of the series.

Sam Heughan Is Ready For New Things After Outlander

It is rather optimistic to hope that the TV series will last ten seasons to match the books about Jamie and Claire that Diana has planned, and Sam’s comments sure to seem to emphasize that. When Tom Ellis, an actor and Sam’s friend, asked him if he has any idea when Outlander will end, Sam answered, “I think I do. I can see the direction it’s going.”

The Scottish actor also gave a similar statement in July 2020 when he said, “As we get further on in the sort of the lifetime of this show, we’re going into Season 6 now, I think, yeah, I can see where the end might possibly be.” In both interviews, Sam spoke of how thankful he is for the role of Jamie Fraser and the career growth it has offered him.

However, there was a “but” in his response. “I don’t want to end it prematurely. I love the character. I love the part. I love my job. It’s changed my life. But I’m ready for other things,” he shared. While he has not revealed any specific information about the ending of Outlander, it is safe to assume that the show may have an endgame in the near future.

Sam Heughan Shares Details On Outlander Season 7

As the droughtlander continues to plague the viewers, Sam Heughan has given them some news that might be a little disappointing. The actor, who is back in Scotland filming the seventh season with his fellow cast and crew, admitted that it might be awhile before fans finally get to see the series on screens.

He said, “This season is going to take a while, it’s an 18-episode bumper mega season, so we probably won’t be finished until March or February of next year.” Unfortunately, it could be some time before Claire reunites with her Highlander husband Jamie once season seven finally begins.

For now, viewers worldwide are keeping their fingers crossed that the next season will pick up with that same positivity, and it won’t be long after ‘Droughtlander’ ends before Claire and Jamie are back where they belong.
