Bill Maher is an equal opportunity offender. If he sees something he doesn't agree with or thinks is unintelligent, he will bring the full force of his masterful satirical comedy down on it. Quite simply, it doesn't matter if someone is on the left side of the aisle or the right. It also doesn't matter if someone is famous, as Bill has a number of celebrities he's openly disliked. One of them being former President Donald Trump.
While Bill has been critical of both President Biden and former President Trump, there's no doubt that he absolutely loves picking on the latter. First of all, no matter what woke Twitter says, Bill is a traditional liberal who doesn't have much in common with the politics of the former President. On top of this, Bill has been open about his disdain for the man's personality. Then there's the fact, according to Bill, Trump is so easy to tease. For these reasons and so much more, Bill has relentlessly mocked Trump on his HBO show. Trump's response to this... suing him and trying to pull him off the air by sicking his millions of followers on him...
Bill Maher Made A Joke About Trump And Got Sued For It
Long before Donald Trump became the President of the United States, Bill Maher was slamming his views on his HBO show, Real Time With Bill Maher. While the political satirist has never shied away from a Trump joke, one landed him in some pretty hot water. After criticizing Donald Trump for demanding that former President Barack Obama show his birth certificate in order to prove that he wasn't born in Kenya, Bill made a joke that he would give Trump $5 million if he showed proof that he wasn't the love-child of an orangutan.
Bill, of course, went a lot further than just claiming Trump looks like an orangutan. In fact, it was an epic takedown as many of his Trump-centered rants have been. Bill holds no barred and neither does Trump, apparently...
In response to the bit, Trump Tweeted out a few nasty comments about Bill attacking his looks. More importantly, he sued him and provided the documentation that proved he was the son of Fred Trump and not an orangutan in an attempt to collect the $5 million.
While on Conan's show, Bill claimed that he found the whole situation ridiculous and a total waste of time for the courts who should be dealing with a number of far more pressing matters... Not an insulted multi-millionaire trying to swindle $5 million from a comedian who made a joke at his expense.
Nevertheless, Bill had a field day pointing out what a thin-skinned person Trump truly is. It also helped him create his catchphrase for the former President, "He's a whiny little b****". While we don't know what happened at the end of the lawsuit, we do know that Bill thought the whole thing was downright insane.
"Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan," Bill said on his show, sharing the documentation of Trump's attempt to collect the $5 million. "Do these morons even know it’s impossible for people and apes to produce offspring?"
Trump Tried To Turn Everyone Against Bill Maher When He Was President
Given how loyal many of former President Trump's fans are, it can be a disadvantage for some celebrities to be on his bad side. But Bill Maher has never cared about that. Even though Trump has attempted to turn his fans against him via a series of Tweets ever since the orangutan lawsuit. In 2020, Trump Tweeted out:
"Watched @billmaher last week for the first time in a long time. He’s totally SHOT, looks terrible, exhausted, gaunt, and weak. If there was ever a good reason for no shutdown, check out this jerk. He never had much going for him, but whatever he did have is missing in action!"
Bill, of course, responded with "Really? This is what the president of the United States does with his time?"
This just angered Donald Trump even more. But despite his best efforts to get audiences to turn on Bill Maher and eventually take him off of the air with poor ratings, Bill's success on television has persisted. While some of the far-left hate on him for his more centrist views, Bill is one of the few people who has been constantly right about the type of things Trump is willing to do to maintain power. It's probably because he knows firsthand just how far the man will go to get what he wants. Especially when he's been scorned. So, what's the point Bill is trying to make to those in the middle and on the left? Don't expect him to roll over and not come back fighting for the oval office in 2025.
