The lore behind the Home Alone franchise has been fascinating to watch unfold in real time. The longer these movies have been around, the more behind-the-scenes information makes itself public.
Daniel Stern, who played Marv of the Wet Bandits (Sticky Bandits if we're talking Lost in New York), has been dropping juicy tidbits of lore recently, revealing everything from getting a salary increase, to what making the movies was actually like.
Recently, Stern expanded on Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, telling a hilarious story about a wild bar tab for the film's richest on-screen persona.
Daniel Stern Ran A $7,000 Bar Tab For Donald Trump
In his new memoir, Home and Alone, Daniel Stern revealed how he ran into Donald Trump, and made him pay a massive drinking bill.
The pair met when Trump famously appeared in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
"Donald ended up doing a cameo, but his real contribution was letting us film there, lending the luster of the Plaza to the movie," Stern wrote.
It should be noted that the former Apprentice host owned the hotel at the time, and managed to get himself in the movie.
In his book, director, Chris Columbus, stated that one of Trump's conditions of the crew using his hotel was an appearance in the film.
"Trump said OK. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.' So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened: People cheered when Trump showed up on screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’ But he did bully his way into the movie," Columbus wrote.
In a surprise to absolutely no one, Trump himself tells a completely different story.
"They rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which I owned at the time. I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history! That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time. People call me whenever it is aired," he posted on his social media platform.
In Stern's story, Trump was a fan of his and wanted to meet him.
"He was not a great conversationalist, and kind of a nothing personality, but the meeting paid off brilliantly," Stern wrote in his book.
As filming got underway, Stern and some friends ran into Trump and his late wife, Ivanka.
"Donald spotted us and proclaimed so everyone could hear that he would be picking up the tab at our table. We all raised a glass to him in thanks and he left the bar, feeling like the host-with-the-most. We drank until there was no more booze left in that bar. We stayed until four in the morning, closing time in New York, and bought round after round of drinks for the entire bar. To this day, Leon and I dispute how much the final tab was, but it was at least seven thousand dollars. We still feel really good about that," he wrote.
Trump himself has yet to comment on this, given that he's busy with a few legal matters.
The Trump and Home Alone story has been a bizarre one to watch unfold, as the $7,000 bar tab, Columbus revealing he begged for the role, and many people want him removed from the film entirely, have all added to the lore of the sequel.

Fans Believe That Trump's Cameo Should Be Removed From Home Alone 2: Lost In New York
After his political career changed the discourse around him as a public figure, many fans want Trump removed from Home Alone 2, and there has even been support from people who worked on the film.
"Home Alone 2 is tarnished. It has a racist stain on it in the shape of Donald J Trump. I petition that he be edited out of the film and replaced with Joe Biden," an online petition read.
Macaulay Culkin voiced his support of Trump's removal on social media.
Interestingly, CNN reported that his cameo had been removed in a CBC airing.
"The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected President," the network statement said.
